@melina_b_harris i don't like saying this but it was my son Eddie's death which precipitated mass vaccination of children with Men A and C vaccine. I can tell the story another time, but it was off the back of a radio interview I did alongside the Chief Medical Officer just after Eddie died.

Many reasons I need comfort rn, with beloved family in danger from bomb-happy idiots. Coping by shutting out Very Bad Things with books and films. I'm watching Pacific Rim. I'm lucky to have many close people I could *'drift' with. Who is that for you? Who is your 'ride or die'?

A long-running study from the University of Helsinki found that women who regularly engage in traditional “grandma hobbies” such as knitting, sewing, crocheting, and gardening tend to live up to eight years longer on average. These activities help calm the nervous system by lowering stress and promoting a meditative, focused state through repetitive movement. They also build confidence by creating a sense of purpose, routine, and visible accomplishment. Mentally, such hobbies keep the brain active, supporting memory, attention, and cognitive flexibility as women age. Together, these effects show that simple, creative pastimes can be deeply therapeutic, emotionally grounding, and beneficial for long-term health.

My real New Year's Day. Niall died 2pm, 3 Jan25. My 1st solo Xmas & NYE are done. 2 days ago, I managed to throw out his biscuits from Nov24 & emptied his toilet bag. So, I gently step into 2026 & will watch my step, grateful for all that I have & all that I ever had.
