A new study published this year shows #aquaculture is the most heavily regulated food sector in the U.S.—facing nearly 8x more federal regulations than livestock. @IntraFish reports that “The study, conducted by researchers at universities in the United States, United Kingdom and Finland, also found that U.S. aquaculture is subject to five times more environmental regulations than sectors like beef and lamb, despite having a lower environmental impact than those sectors.” “The current regulatory landscape may be unintentionally disadvantaging several lower-environmental-impact food industries, especially aquaculture; this could represent a missed opportunity to address the need for more foods with lower environmental impacts,” wrote the researchers.
