@BrownsGlasgow Wonder when you’ll get back to me with a menu? 4 phone calls later and still none… yet an immediate response for the deposit to be paid 🤔

@meganma67808191 @DrDaveT I would have liked to have questioned you more about your poster and viewpoint but we're unfortunately out of time. All the very best with the rest of your course. 😀

@HunterMagi @DrDaveT Hi, Natural selection would be uninterrupted as there has been instances of humans inputting non - native animals and plants into regions they did not belong. If humans were not around natural selection would take a natural course like it is meant to.

@meganma67808191 @DrDaveT Interesting - but Mammoths, for example, died out because they had a mutational issue due to a lack of diversity which caused multiple diseases. Can humans be blamed for that?

@ClaireN112425 @DrDaveT Interesting - hopefully it will not be an issue again but may be applicable to other TSE diseases. Thank you very much for your answers - it's been very interesting to hear your viewpoints. All the very best with the rest of your course. 😀

@HunterMagi @DrDaveT Samples of the brain could be used to make a cure, see what is most effective. Also if there was anything used to ease symptoms it could be used again.

@Group5StemCells @AlexandruBedre1 @DrDaveT Absolutely. It has been a service only available to those who can pay which seems unfair and against the ethos of the NHS. It also makes for a busy delivery room! Thank you for all your answers - it's been so interesting! All the very best with the rest of your course. 😀

@HunterMagi @AlexandruBedre1 @DrDaveT I think it should be NHS-funded as it would allow them to have the choice for stem cell collecting, they wouldn't have to worry about the cost if they really wanted to. However, as your saying about another person, it would depend on the number of staff available.

@ClaireN112425 @DrDaveT Yes - I read something online that shows it is very rare but still does exist in Papua New Guinea. Last question - given that the last case of Kuru is documented in 2009 - how can the findings from this disease case be used today?

@HunterMagi @AlexandruBedre1 @DrDaveT I think I would as it would give me a bit more freedom in what to eat (soft diet only), It can very draining especially with other side effects such as headaches which can affect what you do throughout the day as medication doesn't really help me personally.

@ClaireN112425 @DrDaveT Interesting - perhaps a generational affect will help this too. A couple more questions- how common is cannibalism now globally?

@HunterMagi @DrDaveT Laws are now put in place against cannibalism, and maybe making people aware of the dangers of both of these.

@HunterMagi @AlexandruBedre1 @DrDaveT I recently read an article on the use of stem cells to help with TMJD (Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction/Disorder) which I have myself. This would be beneficial to relax jaw muscles/tendons and would prevent a lot of the discomfort and locking of the jaw

@ClaireN112425 @DrDaveT Comfort measures - absolutely. Your poster mentions the reduction in cannibalism and specifically on consumption of the brain. What can be done to address deep seated cultural practices such as this or FGM?

@HunterMagi @DrDaveT There isn’t really any treatments made for Kuru but there is the use of painkillers, to ease the patient, and to give them fluids, so they weren’t dehydrated.

@Group5StemCells @AlexandruBedre1 @DrDaveT (2/2) of information from Thermofisher and other public facing websites which are not generally considered robust sources. Can you tell me about any current studies on the benefits of Stem Cell use?

@HunterMagi @AlexandruBedre1 @DrDaveT I'm not entirely sure but there may be. In 2004 there was an article published based on information in 2001 in the USA about stem cell research becoming more public knowledge and the types of stem cells being used

@Group5StemCells @AlexandruBedre1 @DrDaveT There is some interesting studies from the UK too that suggests that the public have limited knowledge therefore tend to fall onto the "against" side. You've used a fair amount (1/2)

@HunterMagi @AlexandruBedre1 @DrDaveT I feel this will have a positive effect on society's outlook toward's stem cells. As people who may be against the use of embryonic stem cells receiving treatment may feel more comfortable knowing that it's not affected potential life.

@ClaireN112425 @DrDaveT I agree. I think the public awareness of CJD has opened up people's awareness of these types of issues. You mention that there is no cure , what treatments are there- even if non-curative?

@HunterMagi @DrDaveT Quite relevant as it is a similar disease that is more commonly known, so people can get an idea of what the disease is like. Also they both result in a sponge like structure of the brain, and are both the result of contaminated equipment and eating something that is contaminated

@HunterMagi People with diabetes may be discriminated against due to individuals having this perception that the condition makes them incapable of doing their job. Instead of belittling someone with the condition is should be addressed by making reasonable adjustments to accommodate.

@HunterMagi @DrDaveT Hi we were interest in this topic as animals are all around as and a big part of our life and if it was reversed and animals were the dominants of the world with no humans how they would live and react was interesting to us.

@HunterMagi @AlexandruBedre1 @DrDaveT My understanding of this breakthrough is that the use of induced pluripotent stem cells will reduce and replace the use of embryonic stem cells since there is controversy about their use.
