@singIeirishmen One player is not more correct than the other. One gamer can look at W3 gameplay and think it’s incredible, another can look at it and think it’s underbaked or not reaching its fullest potential, and both can be correct. Video games are awesome.

@singIeirishmen People come to games for different reasons. To oversimplify some players are intrinsically motivated some are extrinsically motivated. ExMotivated players want games to require specific execution, to have encounters designed in such a way that forces diversity in their gameplay.

arguments like this make no sense. games are toys. they are interactive. you are supposed to create your own fun with them. if you deliberately play in such a way that it erodes fun it’s not that the game is bad but that you are bad at having fun

@whitebricklinez I think the point is that Pochita decided his agency had to be stripped because he would never willingly free himself his cycle of self harm. Nor could he ever really be reasonably expected to forgive himself or remain sane after the planet ended up like it did partly bc of him.

I do have a problem with the main character we've been routing fors development, having his agency stripped from him for the sake of an emotional last-minute sacrifice.
I care way more about that than the final chapter taking place in a new world

@nuhre_ I also believe Josh is being polite in this comment by not directly stating that he also doesn’t think Larian did a good job with their romances. He has a high standard for that kind of storytelling and afaik he doesn’t personally vibe with player led romances in almost any rpg

I do find the whole “we can’t live up to BG3 standards” discourse hilarious, because the way some devs talk about it, you’d think Larian created some impossible, once-in-a-lifetime miracle nobody could ever replicate.
When in reality, they mostly just… put genuine effort into the game, listened to player feedback, and respected their audience.
And somehow the industry reacted like Larian personally ruined RPG development forever.

RPG developer Josh Sawyer says Obsidian Entertainment is not against romance systems like the ones in Baldur’s Gate 3. He explained that these features take a huge amount of time, money, and work to create properly. “It’s not like an opposition to their existence,” Sawyer said. “It’s just that I don’t know if we’re going to be able to do it.” Sawyer said romance systems need a lot of extra writing, voice acting, cutscenes, and character reactions. Because of this, Obsidian would rather focus on other parts of a game instead of adding romances that feel incomplete or low quality. He also said players now expect romance content to be as detailed as Baldur’s Gate 3, which raised the standard for RPG games. Sawyer added that Obsidian still cares about emotional stories and character relationships.

Why are editors are not credited as co-authors in any medium of writing that I know of? Do you think they should be?

I submitted a draft of my short story to Claude for copy editing. Sometimes he’ll suggest a re-write of a particular sentence. My version: “She was just a rich girl, with a carelessness about her that could only come from being born into privilege.” Claude’s suggestion: “She was just a rich girl, careless in the way only privilege allows.” It's a matter of taste, but I personally think Claude's version is better. It's saying the same thing but more deftly. But when I swap his sentence in then plug the paragraph into Pangram, it goes from being high confidence that it's human to low confidence that it's human. If I keep doing this, will it start to read like AI slop? If I keep doing this, is it even my writing anymore? So I'm keeping my version, the one I think is worse, and I'm disquieted by the fact that there could be a better version of this story that I now need to specifically avoid.

Having an editor at all means the editor wrote their book for them” that’s insane to me. I don’t think Mike makes this tweet if op were talking about a human.

@HunterRohles @mikeduncan Yes. And that’s why you’ll often see authors acknowledging their editor’s contribution. The average person may not know it, but human editors do A TON of work for some authors.
If authors want to acknowledge AI, that’s fine with me. In fact, I would prefer it.

I think it's funny that people still take issue with the line "You think what? I'm gonna walk out with a laser sword and face down the whole First Order?" as if it were the narrative conclusion of this film.
He literally does that at the end! He faces the whole First Order all by himself! The point is that the character had to rediscover his faith and his strength throughout this film. It's a powerful thing to see someone rise from their lowest point to their greatest strength.
