Louder (the inconvenient truth)
The Spurs Express@TheSpursExpress

🎙️| Eric Dier has offered a strong defence of #Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy: “Daniel’s a very strong businessman. He’s an extremely difficult man to negotiate with but he looks after the club. I just find it funny when I went to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and see ‘Levy Out’ and I’m thinking, this guy over the last ten years has built the best infrastructure in football, best training ground, best stadium — and a team during all of that time that has stayed relatively competitive, reaching the Champions League final in 2019. You look at some other clubs struggling now that Financial Fair Play is becoming a big thing. That’s where I have a lot of respect for Daniel. Look at Arsenal when they built their new stadium, you saw that decline of the team, there were financial constraints as they built, and only now they’re finally coming back. You never hear Tottenham in any of these FFP conversations. It’s baffling to me that a Tottenham fan could ever be upset with someone who looks after a club in that way.” [@henrywinter]

Huge respect for Cook. Going back to county cricket to serve Essex after his international retirement, and showing dedication to 1st class cricket, speaks volumes imho. Too many rush to retire when they’re done with the bright lights of England. Cook was different. A dying breed.

1. Diversity begins in the decision making rooms. At the moment it's a group of terrified middle class men sticking anyone on TV or radio in fear of not being diverse. An insult to the viewer, listener and hard working people from diverse communities who are watching any old tit rock up and get work. 2. Gravitas. If you can't do a 3 hour ratio show or hour tv show and talk unprompted, with erudition, passion, expertise and engage an audience, you have zero business being given a chance. That's what local radio and local tv is for. Earn your stripes, they're being given out on the backs of others right now. 3. Be authentic. Assorted youtubers, ex pros and wannabes giving it out on social media have a very short shelf life because people see through them very quickly, hence the quick turnover of non sports pros in the broadcast media space. Get people who've proven that they are who they say they are and can elaborate that to am audience. 4. Put up pictures of every single tv and radio and newspaper decision maker in the UK. For the "diversity" you see on screen, you'll see the opposite in decision making posts. That's why we get the walking talking stereotypes on air currently. It's what middle class men, terrified of being called out as bigots, see diversity as. And it's insulting. Start there and maybe we'll get some decent sports tv and radio back, until then we'll have the least capable generation ever getting the most airtime. And everyone, or almost everyone will be nodding in agreement. Because people aren't stupid. They're just afraid to voice their opinions so they do it with their subscriptions.

@StanCollymore Agree and not its not just football, we had exactly those conversations in the sport I work in. How do you persuade a generation who don’t watch or engage with sport, to start doing so.

@BDOC48 Each venue bids after ICC set schedule then ECB decides. Lord’s can’t host everything otherwise there would be uproar on that too

CRICKET HISTORY The Eton v Harrow match at Lord's 1910. Ladies with parasols and gents in bowler hats stroll around the outfield. The MCC still prefers hosting this kind of fixture, as opposed to a Women's Test Match.

This is the inconvenient part for those seeking to make a grisly exemplar of Manchester City: this is a sport where everyone is essentially trying to cheat. Deceit and duplicity are built into virtually every facet of football. By @jonathanliew theguardian.com/football/blog/…
