@gavin_spoor You do you but I think it’s cheaper and less stress to meticulously maintain one than having a couple in constant state of semi functioning disrepair. I don’t own anything made in this century either.

Nicest thing about a fleet of tired iron - When one goes down you limp it to the sidelines, call the shop, and keep on trucking. Tire and rim (stole a rim off machine #4 setting at the house) were replaced on 1688 by late afternoon, perfect timing since the headlights on the 1680 decided to not work. Swap the cornhead back for the 2nd time in a day and got back at it. It might be less efficient than one class 9, but the show doesn’t stop.

@LucasAHaag You must not have run Gleaners. I often joke that I was the only kid in my elementary school who could do it. We had plenty of practice.

Dad and grandad taught me lots in the shop, but occasionally there's something I never learned to do because it was something they always did. Torching a bearing race off a shaft is today's example. #agtwitter

We had a suicide in our neighborhood this week. When this happens everyone says if you’re feeling down call me. If you’re feeling that bad, you think no one cares so you don’t call. We need to do better by our friends and neighbors. Call or text someone.

@Campbellgrain @MattHintz3 @matthewschreurs I felt the same way about full time cash croppers kids getting free preschool and free lunches just because dad didn’t show much income on his tax returns. All while mom was driving a new Lincoln.

@MattHintz3 @matthewschreurs Or like when there's kids that go to school with yours, and you're asked to donate winter coats and such and then see the parents pull up in the middle of the day smoking and tattoos and driving a nicer vehicle then us.

@Shawridgefarm Obviously the lakes change weather patterns for both of us but your latitude isn’t much different from mine. I plant 1.7-2.5 maturity. Have had my best beans with normal maturities planted mid April. We typically get a pretty good winter storm around Nov 10

3rd season in a row I have watched very early/early planted soybeans in our area flop/disappoint. Seems using maturities typical for the zone have those RM’s missing out on a chunk of reproduction season. If we keep pushing the early planted soybeans narrative should we be reevaluating bean maturities to capture the intended yield gain of early planting? Double edge sword of early harvest/wheat planting or gaining yield from longer maturities.

@SpartanFarmer I don’t shoot coyotes because they might eat a deer but in reality they don’t. I’ve seen lots of coyotes walk right past deer. Better to just shoot the deer.

@HorFarms @AaronBobeck Yep. Buy a $25,000 pickup and put 100,000 miles on it. Or buy a $50,000 and put 200,000 on it.

@baldagronomist Not to discount the need to kill more deer, but that picture is coon or turkey damage. Deer leave the stalk standing and just eat corn on the cob.

We need some deer hunters. Damage is worse I’ve seen near woods. I don’t envy those of you that farm a bunch of patches surrounded by trees.

@mikebelan3 I had been wondering about that so this spring I planted 1/3 of a field 30” 1/3 doubled back with the planter for 15” and 1/3 7.5 drilled. All no till population same as I could get it. Zero difference at harvest.

Doing custom work I don’t comment on the farmers yield or farming practice. But he planted in 30” rows and they are yielding over 60bu/ac and mine in 7.5” down the road are 20 bu less. I know there is a lot of variables but 20 bu difference?? Is it just a yr for wide rows ?

@GoddessofGrain @TheGrainiac @SchwabMatt This is exactly my problem, 5 hours later I have time to reply. I’m so busy doing the work of running a somewhat successful business that I don’t have time to do the management to run a really successful business. Call me in January I should have time then.

@HuyckRuss @SchwabMatt @GoddessofGrain Yeah honestly that doesn’t make sense. Or I’m missing something. But in that case and you desire to remain unpriced, just do a basis contract. It’s cheaper and you can get access to your cash once delivered.
