It’s not like the movie even softens this dynamic or the tragedy. Shadow still doesn’t know where he belongs, yet Maria is the first person to actually treat him like a real person. Her death is still tragic and has a horrible impact on Shadow. The big differences is some changes to make it fit in with the continuity of the movies. If anything, the movie having these changes makes the dynamic even more appear because it’s not like Maria even needs Shadow, she just genuinely likes him as a person. That’s not to say she didn’t care in the games obviously, but still. It’s an adaptation at the end of the day, if I really wanted to see something similar or one-to-one I’d just play Sonic Adventure 2 again

This is a complaint I’ve seen more than once, and I disagree. This is an adaptation. Given the continuity of the movies, it makes more sense for Shadow to be an alien, how would Gerald have been able to replicate an alien species almost perfectly. Maria wasn’t ever really known to be sick in the games until Shadow 05 and Gerald’s Journal, samething with Maria being shot. They still ultimately capture the importance and tragedy of Shadow and Maria’s relationship, with Shadow not knowing what his purpose is and Maria being the first (and only) person to actually treat him normally, with her death still affecting Shadow. So in context with the previous two movies, it makes more sense for them to go with this direction, and they still capture the basis of how good the relationship was, combine that and how much we see them together

the fact they took away her terminal illness and disabilities in the movie was atrocious work and not enough people talk about it.

Keep in mind right, when I say that it’d be ridiculous for Gerald to replicate a alien species if they were to try and go at the angle, what I mean is like in the continuity of the first two movies: Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are all extraterrestrial aliens who aren’t from Earth. It would be very unrealistic for Gerald to somehow replicate an alien species almost perfectly when there wouldn’t be any contact with them until 50 years later.

@Ephew3 So rather than actually attempting to disprove why I’m wrong, you are just going to go straight to being petty instead? What does my review get wrong? This is what happens in the special, and I think it’s poorly written and bad, hell I even gave it some credit where it was due.

One Last Kill sucks, I’m sorry. The story wouldn’t have happened if the Punisher actually finished the job, but no he let this handicapped women live despite being right in front of him, declared the job done, and then she put a hit on him while telling it straight to his face when she can barely even stand, spitting in his face and saying “I’m the one who’s doing the punishing now” when all Frank has to do is snap this twig in half. Acting is decent, action can be fun, the story is dogshit, and I’m tired of seeing the retread of Punisher retiring. Please do something new for once.

It’s not “saying anything” to point out and critique real flaws within a show or any kind of medium. For example, Born Again wasn’t even meant to be canon to the Netflix show, it was meant to be a reboot. Then, when the overhaul team took over, they made it canon, despite 6 whole episodes already being filmed, which led to poor execution of ideas, and even editing issues, bad ADR, etc, is that or real character inconsistencies I brought up just “saying anything?”

@YourAverageLMA @Ancomraven2 He has no understanding of the character… because he thinks born again is a poorly written show that’s inconsistent with the Netflix series and the characters within it?

@Ancomraven2 Agreed. Idk who he thinks he is atp lol. Watched his Born Again "review" and he obviously has no understanding of the character. So I'm guessing it's the same way with Frank too. We're allowed to like whatever we want. Don't let people like this guy change your opinions. 👍

It kind of is, and I’m not even trying to blame Antony for this either because he’s just an actor, and it’s not like the lack of deaths were the only thing he was talking about. This doesn’t dismiss my overall point on The Boys falling into the same kind of problems as Stranger Things. Sure, people are actually dying here, that’s cool, but that doesn’t change the execution of how bad this season has been.

It’s ironic how Antony Starr threw shade at Stranger Things, yet The Boys is quite literally falling into the same trap. 1. Season 1 of both shows were considered pretty damn good. 2. Every Season after the first is considered a step down in some way, with worse writing all around, whether you like them or not. 3. The Fifth and Final Season completely undermines what the previous season (and the first) set up, most episodes are complete filler, characters who’ve been a big part of the show are sidelined, and it’s all leading up to a terrible finale, with the desperate need to keep the status quo. Different kind of shows, same structural issues and fate
DiscussingFilm@DiscussingFilm

Eric Kripke says he is really hoping that fans enjoy ‘THE BOYS’ series finale. “It’s super hard to do a finale. Fans will retroactively judge the show based on how they feel about the finale. If we stiff it, they will definitely say, ‘Well, that show wasn’t as good as we thought it was.’ And it’s almost like you’re trying to secure your legacy with these finales.” (Source: hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/the…)

We should criticize the execution of how it does this, and not the existence of it.

Most people shouldn’t even go to the movies for this, and no, “woke” is not criticism just because it’s taking real life inspiration, movies and other mediums do this all the fucking time and have been from the very beginning.

I don’t like every single game, of course. There are some things that I personally don’t like, but I can still at least acknowledge that they’re well designed games that serve the purpose that they were trying to make and can be fun for other people into that stuff. And I’m sorry, but mixtape is not an example of that for me.

Sure, but that doesn’t mean that real critiques like if something is bad game design or why something doesn’t work in execution are fair reasons to not like a game or even argue it’s a bad game, and those aren’t the only possible critiques. I’ve been seeing a lot of talk about this new “Mixtape game” and it looks and plays like dog shit. It fails at basic game-design where if you don’t actually play as intended, it just continues on and plays the game for you rather than giving you real consequences. It’s trying to pose an indie game when it was not only made by Megan Ellison, but it was published by like two different companies and has licensed 90s music. That’s not Indie by definition. It’s an industry plant pretending to be indie and using spiderverse like visuals to dangle the keys. So calling it a bad game and even pointing out its false advertisement is fair criticism.

Reminder: just because you're not personally into a game, doesn't mean it's a bad game

Not to mention how much buzz the franchise is getting now, especially from the Mario galaxy movie (even despite my problems with it as a whole and Fox being a cameo) the timing couldn’t be better for star fox. I’m annoyed it’s another remake again, but I definitely think there’s the potential of it being a success.
