There were many non slaves that were black that fought. I agree that slavery around the world is wrong. With that said the north was not faultless in this. Then we can speak of Africans selling their own and it doesn’t matter if it was enemy African tribes or Arabs that sold more whites than blacks during the Ottoman Empire. All of it is wrong but you can’t be black and white about it no pun intended.
