@cornu__copia Hate to use the word ignorant, but come on, dude. Southerners have rich culture and they love to share it with people warmly. They are enjoying watching a villifying narrative collapse. The depictions you see in media are fake, not what you see here.

Every US every cultural institution is blue, all the universities are blue, all the tech centers are blue, Hollywood is blue, New York is blue, DC is blue, California is blue, urban culture is blue, pop culture is blue... Only guns, cars, burgers left for the Reds to claim.

(Imagined) European validation of American low culture is like crack cocaine to them, it seems. At first, I found it baffling how Red Americans actually seem to feel nationalistic pride of hamburgers, gas stations and cars rather than their national heroes, achievements etc...
DocumentingLibs@HistorianUSA1

This Norwegian kid visiting the US for the World Cup is straight-up floored by In-N-Out. 😂 From struggling through the order (“three burgers… only bread and meat!”) to devouring it and calling it “Delicious!” — pure joy. Europeans come here and realize America’s high-quality life isn’t a myth. Best burgers, friendliest service, and freedom fries. 🇺🇸🍔

For those whose objection to soccer is the lack of scoring, the USA beat Paraguay 28-7.

@_batman24 @ceymk1 Freedom itself isn't a virtue. Enshrining freedom isn't about everyone doing whatever they want, but rather ensuring people are able to pursue virtue and the good. That's one reason humility is important -- "good" might not be what we want or expect.

@HyperZLe @ceymk1 Ok so freedom aka the freedom to pursue happiness. So why can’t he have the freedom to be gay? That’s like the point of the constitution to protect people’s rights which includes the right to love and marry whoever u want?

@MHendi35 @lymanstoneky I'm saying the Liberty University claim is a false equivalence. You can't even make your own company without being hounded for it.

@MHendi35 @lymanstoneky Liberty University is newer and isn't going to have the networking or funding for "billion dollar" startups. Point was institutional ideological capture has demanded compliance for years.

@OliverJia1014 Journalists and academics presented postmodern ideology as profitable to companies, who obliged in part because of demanding social sentiments. Journos would write "when Star Wars, the MCU, and video games cater to everyone, they will soar to new heights!"

Consequences of everything being turned into "content" and the misguided notion among the people in charge that audiences will lap up an endless stream of "content" regardless of quality. The social justice messaging is just a bonus to make it look like the gray suits care.
Jon 🔬@JonnyMicro

Actually crazy how every single major IP has been destroyed by the people put in charge of stewarding them, and all mainly for the same reason of giving the finger to fans and using them as vehicles for social messaging

@JamalofSiwa @MoziasTheFish @SynthPotato The norns outright accuse him of it during their nightmare trials. Mimir's guilt is he didn't care about the disenfranchisement of women. Italicized men in case we didn't get it. The Norns then say Mimir only joined up with Kratos because he's a toxic dude bro.

Being anti-woke has got to be the most miserable hobby Everything angers you and makes you seethe that you can’t enjoy a single piece of media. We haven’t gone by a week without those people melting down, an insane level of sensitivity.

@animeoutsiders It wasn't millennials. Games were caught up in a larger social force of postmodern ideology that swept through the entirety of culture in the early 2010s.

The oversaturation of "sex sells" from 90's into the 00's created a large subset of millennials that swung hard in the opposite direction, believing that any shred of sexual attractiveness would be committing the perceived sins of the old times. These are people who grew up in a time when virtually every video game had comical jiggle physics; you were inundated with Girls Gone Wild commercials if you stayed up late enough; MTV was teetering on softcore porn at any given moment; the most popular show on network TV for years was "big breasted lifeguards run on the beach in slow motion;" they were using tits to advertise fast food and web hosting; etc. etc. etc. When publishers started releasing stuff like BMX XXX, a lot of millennials started wondering if things had gone too far, making them prime targets to be shamed by homely women who'd been waiting for this moment all their lives. Standards were very lax back then, and many people overindulged. Now they've become the sex appeal equivalent of the former drug addict who overcompensates with their new religion.

@_batman24 @ceymk1 Clark Kent only succeeds as Superman because he has the guiding external principles and internal humility to wield his strength for good. It is very important that he was raised the way he was. Clark isn't a metaphor. He fights for truth, justice, and the American way.

@_batman24 @ceymk1 WRONG. He is legally American under 8 U.S.C. 1401(f) (Section 301(f). Any child discovered under the age of 5 with unknown parents is conclusively and legally presumed American. He's a rural farm boy raised with traditional values. Who said anything about hating gay people?
