The chief value proposition of a bucket is that it allows you to carry a manageable amount of water. The goal is never to fill it. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Actually the more you fill it the harder it is to carry. So use its capacity wisely.

When organisations become disjointed things can fall between the gaps. With no owner, team or visibility it further sinks into limbo. I had a convo w/ someone about an internal tool they desperately need but it's slipped into a gap..it exists, but there's no clear way to get it.

@aahoogendoorn Kanban within Scrum (or Scrumban) is about improving process flow & thus ability to deliver shippable increments of product in short cycles. Kanban on its own isn't focused on iterative/incremental product development, rather it's a context agnostic process improvement framework.

“Let’s create the ultimate version of what this could be, then scope it down” = shitty walked-back v1 with obvious holes “Let’s build what we *know* we need right now” = correctly-scoped, useful feature

Instead of trying to test private methods, how about pulling out a new class where that private method behavior becomes part of the public API of that class? I often feel like Java developers are afraid to create new classes, when they should be creating them much more freely.

First blog post of 2021! Following on from my lightning talk, here I discuss the benefits of combining behavioural specifications formulated via BDD with e2e testing, along with a simple example. Enjoy! carlyrichmond.com/2021/02/15/mix…

A question came up in a client meeting yesterday: how do we maintain a coherent culture and sense or belonging when everyone is working remotely? Made me wonder, what creates a sense of belonging for you?

@scriptmunkee Coefficient of Variation. Basically divide the standard deviation of the dataset by its mean average. Lower means more predictable, higher more volatile.

I need some advice around #Agile and Story Pointing. How do I change the mindset of people saying 1 story point of effort is equal to 1 day of work?

@neil_killick Dependencies is one of the biggest factors I think. Waiting for a code review or APIs or final design or final copy etc., especially when dependent on more senior members.

In the arena of estimating, it's never about 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱. It's about 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲 (i.e. taking into account start date, other work, delays, etc.). These are usually nowhere near the same.
