Don’t be fooled by political theatre. The civilian federal government has been at the same level since 1969 while the population of the U.S. drastically increased.

The National Urban League just declared a state of emergency for Black America — warning that decades of civil rights progress are being dismantled. From DEI rollbacks to extremist policies, our freedoms and futures are on the line. We must stay vigilant. brnw.ch/21wUg0q

Cultural assimilation is not just about America, it is also about the region in America. Don’t go to Texas and try to make it New York. Don’t come to North Carolina and try to make it Philadelphia.

And we should have a choice just like we do for toll roads.

@MargoinWNC But we all pay for public infrastructure … so how about we not limit education funds to only public schools. At the end of the day, we all want our children educated whether it’s home, private or public schooled.

@Scobleizer You would have a lot more of every product in the world wasn’t charging a subscription service fee. You’re definitely worth it.

@Scobleizer @TimSweeneyEpic @freddavis Your honestly is always appreciated. I agree Apple’s been arrogant for years and they believe everyone is going to continue paying high prices for their products and monopoly behavior. They better think again.

I was not out front pushing Apple to change. In hindsight I am ashamed I didn’t back up @TimSweeneyEpic. Who was right all along to hold Apple’s feet to the fire. I had heard many other stories of unethical, or incompetent, behavior. For years. Fred Davis, @freddavis, cofounder of Wired, tried to get me to see them back when I hung out at @UploadVR years ago. I kept my eyes closed thinking Tim would someday prove him wrong. Tim never did. And tonight it is clear the rot was even deeper than Davis laid out. @gruber did a better job, than me, too, of focusing on @tim_cook after the fact than I could have, or was willing to do. All this puts Apple’s autonomous car project debacle (it was cancelled last year after spending tens of billions) and the Vision Pro’s lackluster launch more in focus. I was a Tim Cook cheerleader, albeit from afar. When people said he has no vision I tried to defend him. Tonight I see that was not the correct path. Apple still has most of the advantages to do something special but tonight it seems that all the pieces are on the floor, having been scattered by a huge earthquake. Giving back $100 billion to shareholders in a stock buyback is an indictment of the lack of vision. Elon Musk would have spent that to buy a company and build a huge datacenter to bring Apple into the Holodeck age. Tonight Apple’s headquarters, a huge circular building, has become a metaphor for not a joining of fans exploring new worlds but a metaphor of closedness, secrecy, greed, and politics. It all makes me sad. Apple used to make me proud (I was first to buy the first iPhone at Steve Jobs’ store in Palo Alto) but tonight I feel ill just looking at Apple’s behavior. Apple needs a complete management team change. Even Schiller shouldn’t survive. The old guard just does not have the credibility to lead Apple into the AI (Holodecks and Robots) age. Fixing this is way over my pay grade and all I can hope is that someday we will have an AI-first management team who gathers the good things about Apple (go back to why it was founded, @stevewoz told me he wanted a personal computer so that he could compute free of the corporate computers he was forced to use as a child, sneaking into computing rooms in the middle of the night to type in his programs). Apple Vision Pro is so close to a brilliant product. But it is a frustrating product to use and demonstrate to others in many ways. Not just its weight. Tonight I see the flaws (like its very weak support for X) in a new dark light. It is the arrogance of Apple that kept it from building a beautiful partnership with the Web. And with the auto industry. I have seen arrogance kill companies before. Nokia and Borland, among others, that I witnessed personally, come to mind. Sorry for turning a blind eye to the arrogance of Apple even though it was shown to me many times. I feel nauseous. The smell out of Cupertino won’t stop anytime soon. This mess will not be cleaned up quickly. And will give me months to think about my own failures as Apple fan #1. Translation: I no longer am going to listen to Tim Cook. Let me know when a new leadership team is in place then I will see if I want to become a fan again.

The judge’s ruling in the Apple app competition case is pretty damning. I’m not sure how Tim Cook can survive this ruling - the board needs to nudge him out. And kudos to Schiller for being the voice of reason and decency at Apple. Hope more execs like him can help turn the ship around. daringfireball.net/2025/04/gonzal…
