There is nothing about this that is amazing. It was predicted endlessly, and those predictions were dismissed by people citing the fact that big companies opposed these measures. They opposed them because while their relative position is stronger, the pie is now smaller.

truly one of the most amazing developments in trans-Atlantic tech policy over the past 20 years is the way that Europe set out to regulate US tech giants into the ground, but only made them more dominant as a result. This Economist headline really says it.

@paulg @tenobrus @KatieMiller Your engagement here on the New Yorker story has been edifying. But one thing that’s unclear to me, and seems beyond my ken to uncover, is whether YC owns a stake in OpenAI. My presumption is yes, given that YC funded OpenAI at its inception, when it was called YC Research. True?

@tenobrus @KatieMiller Seems obvious in retrospect, but we've now learned we should ask the partners themselves. (And they are indeed now happy.)

Some things that people are saying about Sam Altman: Current OAI board member: "He's a sociopath. He's unconstrained by truth." Dario Amodei's internal memo: "The problem with OpenAI is Sam himself." Paul Graham Y Combinator co-founder: “Sam had been lying to us all the time.” Microsoft exec: "Small but real chance he's remembered as a Bernie Madoff-level scammer." Ilya Sutskever: “I don’t think Sam is the guy who should have his finger on the button.” Former researcher: "He sets up structures that constrain him on paper. Then when it comes time to be constrained, he does away with them."

OpenAI needs to figure out who's running the PR mill that's so constantly negative on Sam as a person. I don't think its organic and Sam should assume it isn't.

“We do not seek regime change” Trump declares as he escalates his regime change war against Iran. Neocons like Graham/Bolton are cheering. To all who voted for Trump bc of his antiwar rhetoric, it’s time to realize he lied to u. Stand with me against Trump’s Iran War! #TrumpsWar

When America sends missiles and tanks into a sovereign country, is it war? You might be surprised by the answer...

@marcthiessen Because after watching the video, people saw that they shot him only after disarming him? Because he was directing traffic until the agents shoved a woman to the ground and he went over to assist? Because he never drew the weapon and it’s not illegal to legally carry a gun?

Big news: Apple’s lead Safari designer just joined @browsercompany. Alongside @charliedeets, that means we now have the lead designers from every Safari era that overlapped with Arc and Dia (2020 to 2025). We’re not fucking around this year — 2026 will be our biggest yet 🏀

@JonyIveParody And every single place where Ariel has ever been used, it would look better if Helvetica were substituted. There’s no trade-off at all.

Apologies—I’d forgotten that you’d already cited Mark Simonson’s Pulitzer-worthy takedown of Arial. I share this essay with so many people. I fucking hate Arial. It is without question my least favourite typeface of all time. Everyone always shits on Comic Sans (and make no mistake, it’s terrible) but at least Comic Sans is unique and was made for a very specific and arguably logical reason. It’s absolutely awful, but it’s originally awful. Arial exists for no other reason than to not have to pay to license Helvetica.
