Apologies—I’d forgotten that you’d already cited Mark Simonson’s Pulitzer-worthy takedown of Arial. I share this essay with so many people. I fucking hate Arial. It is without question my least favourite typeface of all time. Everyone always shits on Comic Sans (and make no mistake, it’s terrible) but at least Comic Sans is unique and was made for a very specific and arguably logical reason. It’s absolutely awful, but it’s originally awful. Arial exists for no other reason than to not have to pay to license Helvetica.

@SnazzyLabs I don’t give a second thought to continuing to use em dashes exactly how I’ve always used them. To me the utility of this “em dash = AI-generated” notion isn’t identifying AI-generated text. It’s that the notion identifies stupid/illiterate people who believe it.

I will never forgive LLMs from stealing the em dash from me. I have used it daily for over 15-years—here is a high-school essay proving as much—and for people to now assume I use AI to write everything is maddening.

@OnutAdrian @raywongy They’re not the same camera. Primary camera on the iPhone Air is very good, but it’s not as good as the primary (1x) camera on 17 Pro (or even the last few years of iPhones Pro).

I've taken better photos with the iPhone Air's single-lens camera than I have with the two lenses on an iPhone 17 or the three on the 17 Pro. One camera has made me take more intentional photos as opposed to more photos that are throwaways. Every shot is that much more carefully framed just like it is with my Fujifilm X100V More camera lenses ≠ better photos Better as in more memorable photos not necessarily sharper More sharpness ≠ better photos As phones added more lenses, generally photo quality has gone down in less skilled hands Less is more
