#WildlifeCrime isn’t just about protecting animals. It’s fueling the triple planetary crisis. Illegal trade, poaching, and habitat destruction accelerate climate change, drive biodiversity loss, and worsen pollution. Tackling it is key to protecting ecosystems and our future. Wildlife crime is far from declining. The World Wildlife Crime Report 2024 shows illegal trade affects 4,000+ species across 160+ countries. This drives extinctions, fuels organized crime and undermines climate & biodiversity goals. Read the report here ➡️tinyurl.com/yyzb22e7 #TogetherAgainstWildlifeCrime

Over the years, #ICCWC brought together the scientific and law enforcement communities, creating a shared understanding of how forensic science could strengthen investigations and prosecutions. These early steps were crucial in bridging the gap between field operations and laboratory science. Today, that early vision is being fully realized. 🧪 As ICCWC celebrates 15 years, we're looking back at 15 achievements towards a world free of wildlife crime. ➡️tinyurl.com/34ayds2f Watch to learn more ▶️ tinyurl.com/4xm6szd4 #ICCWC15 #TogetherAgainstWildlifeCrime @UNODC_ENV

Illegal wildlife trade has increasingly moved online, with traffickers using social media, ecommerce, and encrypted messaging apps to sell ivory, pangolins, exotic pets & other endangered species. To counter this, #ICCWC supports countries in tackling online #wildlifecrime. 💻 🛜 As ICCWC celebrates 15 years, we're looking back at 15 achievements towards a world free of wildlife crime. ➡️lnkd.in/drtW2dmN #ICCWC15 #TogetherAgainstWildlifeCrime

#WildlifeCrime cases can only succeed in court if evidence is collected and preserved correctly. By training rangers, police & prosecutors in wildlife crime scene management, #ICCWC has helped ensure evidence stands up in court, turning frontline action into justice.🔍 As ICCWC celebrates 15 years, we're looking back at 15 achievements towards a world free of wildlife crime. ➡️tinyurl.com/34ayds2f #ICCWC15 #TogetherAgainstWildlifeCrime

World Customs Organization
This year’s World Wildlife Day theme, “Medicinal and Aromatic Plants: Conserving Health, Heritage and Livelihoods,” highlights the growing threat of illicit trade in plant species vital to traditional medicine, pharmaceuticals, food, cosmetics and the livelihoods of millions. For the World Customs Organization (WCO), protecting these species starts at the border. Customs administrations play a critical role in enforcing international trade regulations, including the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), by applying risk-based targeting and intelligence-led controls to combat illegal trade in endangered and protected plant, timber, and wildlife. Recent results from Operation Thunder 2025 — the largest global wildlife enforcement operation conducted with INTERPOL and WCO Members — underscores the scale of the threat. ✅ 4,640 seizures across 134 countries ✅ Tens of thousands of protected animals and plants ✅ 30+ tonnes of species classified as endangered under CITES ✅ 10+ tonnes of live plants, including medicinal and aromatic plants and their derivatives ✅ Over 32,000 m3 and 14,000 pieces of illicit timber Illegal plant trade reached record levels in 2025. Beyond enforcement operations, the WCO continues to strengthen Members’ capacity through technical assistance, operational guidance, secure platforms for intelligence and information sharing, data management, and international collaboration. Combating illicit trade in medicinal and aromatic plants goes beyond conservation — it is essential to protecting public health, cultural heritage, and economic resilience. 👉 Read more here – wcoomd.org/en/media/newsr… @CITES @UN
