Over the past 2 weeks, the Hub has supported County Level Budget Cafés across the region. The sessions provided a platform for the budget champions to analyze the counties' FY 2025/26 Programme-Based Budgets & draft memorandums ahead of public participation for budget approval

In Baringo County Budget Cafe, the Budget Champions flagged the overestimation of local revenue projections and the high wage bill. Concerns were also raised about inequities in resource allocation across wards, the undercosting and underfunding of key capital projects.

In Kericho County, issues identified included the lack of allocation for stalled strategic intervention water projects, low allocations for PWD devices, and over-projection of own source revenue. Also, the budget document had limited financial information affecting analysis.

Kudos to West Pokot County for emerging top in the Kenya County Budget Transparency Survey (CBTS) 2024 with a score of 83%. It also stands out for having the most comprehensive CFSP & ADP for the FY 2023/2024 and for being the most consistent county in budget transparency.
