The @IGADPeace Director Commander @AbebeMuluneh delivered welcoming remarks on behalf of H.E @DrWorkneh, @IGADsecretariat’s Executive Secretary, at the 19th @IGAD_CEWARN Technical Committee on Early Warning (TCEWR) meeting in Mombasa, Kenya. He highlighted on the shared commitment to addressing the evolving human security challenges facing or region and the need to strgnthen CEWARN for peace and security. The meeting convenes heads of national CEWERUs and CSOs to discuss emerging threats and strategies to enhance regional conflict prevention, focusing on adapting our efforts to the Region’s dynamic challenges.

Today I am honoured to make a welcoming remark on behalf of the ES at the 19th meeting of CEWARN TCEW. I highlighted iGAD shared commitment to addressing the evolving human security challenges facing or region and the need to strgnthen CEWARN for peace and security.

The Division’s staff from all units, programs, and specialised offices convene in Bishoftu, #Ethiopia, to deliberate on the Initial Program development and appraisal. This convention is vital for planning and execution of the remaining two years of the Peace and Security Strategy. The Director Commander @AbebeMuluneh opened the meeting, emphasising its role in advancing regional peace. and stability. Over the two days, the team will review, analyse and update the program proposal, enrich the results framework, and brainstorm on risks and assumptions. The Division’s Political Affairs and Peace Building Unit (IGAD PAP) has launched a 3-day meeting to operationalise the IGAD National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) Network, in Bishoftu,Ethiopia. This gathering aims to enhance cooperation, collaboration, and communication among NHRIs across IGAD Member States, focusing on human rights advocacy, promotion, and protection. Opening remarks were delivered by Dr. Aleu @Temjok1; Head of IGAD- PAP, Mr. @abebaw_bihonegn; IGAD Head of Mission to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and Mrs. Rakeb Messele of @EthioHRC; the NHRIs Network Chair. At the end of this consultative meeting, a communications forum will be established, and procedural guidelines developed. Director Commander @AbebeMuluneh is attending the IGAD Women’s Forum 2024, themed ‘Amplifying the Voice of Sudanese Women in Ending the Prolonged Conflict.’ He highlighted the impact of war and shared his insights on regional peace and security.

The Division is conducting a 4-day Capacity Building Workshop on Post-Conflict Transition in Juba, Republic of South Sudan. This vital training will equip Government Officials and Stakeholders with knowledge and key skills in post-conflict issues. In the opening session, @IGADPeace Director Commander @AbebeMuluneh and H.E. Amb Juma Dino, Acting General Director of Multilateral and Regional Organisations of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation highlighted the workshop’s significance.
