Bharat steps up efforts to be a product nation. Chipsets with our own IP is an important objective in this journey. Our semiconductor mission has a component - Design Linked Incentives - DLI - to encourage startups who innovate and design chips. Supported by DLI Scheme and IIT-M expertise, Mindgrove Technologies has designed secure IoT chips. These are designed for CCTV cameras, industry 4.0 applications, and other IoT devices. This high-performance microcontroller System-on-Chip will also enable trusted indigenous solutions for strategic sectors.

In conversation with @ThanthiTV , Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (@iitmadras) Director Prof. Kamakoti Veezhinathan and Assistant Prof Manish Anand, Department of Mechanical Engineering, shed light on the development of India’s lightest active wheelchair, which weighs just 8.5 kg, nearly half the weight of standard Indian models. Crafted under the mentorship of Prof. Manish, together with IITM Startup Thryv Mobility, the innovation is the result of a dynamic collaboration across mechanical engineering, metallurgy, design, and more. What makes it stand out? It’s not only lightweight but also affordable at ₹75,000—far cheaper than imported counterparts. It is ISO 7176-certified, tested by the Indian Army, and uses advanced aluminium and carbon fibre composites to ensure strength and resilience. More than a mobility aid, this innovation supports civilians, soldiers, the elderly, and even Paralympians, transforming lives through inclusive design. With global patents and high-impact research backing it, this is a shining example of academic innovation meeting social impact. Let’s continue to empower young minds to explore, innovate, and solve real-world problems.
