@coldxman Isn't completely fabricating a statement by Joe Kent, not realizing it, and not even checking it after being warned it was inaccurate (and instead restating it) more indicative of your own derangement?

@coldxman @ggreenwald You just said it was a lie, but won't even admit it was rash when told it was a different reference. You didn't even look deep into it, just did a quick google, brain said "aha! bias confirmed!" and you march on. Shows your intellectual laziness and/or ideological blinders.

I typically write articles to accompany debates. I did the same with Dave Smith. A lot of people prefer an article to a 2 hour podcast—so I do both. Not weird imo. Tone is subjective, but I really don’t think I was nasty about you or name-called in the article. I strongly disagree with you, and my tone reflects that. But it’s not personal. As for the Nixon thing, my tone in this tweet was really reacting to the guy who retweeted you. To be fair to you, I think he is making a more extreme claim about Nixon than you were. Should’ve been more clear that I was directing that energy more at him than you

The Nixon thing is a lie. Full quote below. What Nixon actually said: (1) Jewish-Americans see US-Israel interests as perfectly aligned. (2) In fact, they're usually aligned, but not always. (3) When they're not aligned, he ignored the lobby and acted in U.S. interests.

Mind blowing revelation. Glenn Greenwald confirms that Richard Nixon and Barry Goldwater both complained on tape that the Israel lobby completely dictates American foreign policy. This is not a conspiracy theory. It is a documented reality admitted by US Presidents.

@coldxman You entire approach is cherry picking things to confirm your bias. If you dug deeper instead of stopping once you confirmed your bias you would see other nixon material in line with what greenwald said (even though even this is not far off)

Netanyahu wasn't even the prime minister of Israel in 2002. He testified before Congress as a private citizen. The actual Israeli government at the time, under Ariel Sharon, was telling the Bush Admin that Iraq was a distraction from what they perceived as the real threat, Iran

@JosephJakeKlein @philoshua @History__Speaks You can test 2 + 2 = 5 is incorrect by testing 2+2 = 4. Equating economies to mathematics is fallacious, probably moreso than ants to humans. Also appeals to authority only work as a heuristic if all or most authorities agree. I'll read this if you read Blackshirts and Reds

We can test 2+2=4, but we cannot disprove it by testing it. If you tested it and found 2+2=5 then it would be your experiment that was wrong, not the mathematical theory. 2+2 cannot equal 5. It is categorically impossible. Similarly, economies cannot perform economic calculation without free market prices. I don’t think I’m going to convince you over tweet, but please consider reading the book I originally recommended. It is very, very short and straight to the point. cdn.mises.org/Economic%20Cal…

Pynchon bros have gotta stop saying that anyone who disagrees with them is too stupid to get it. Their inability to make an argument rooted in the actual diegesis of the film makes this accusation feel like a confession. And the racial optics aren't great.

Discourse surrounding Perfidia proves that 90 percent of the audience cannot grasp a character written to have any complexity and depth. They need cardboard revolutionaries, not this. It’s a sign of the times when people don’t read or think but only consume and scroll.

What's funny is that I didn't even say the movie (outside of the first 30 min) was bad -- just that it was anti-revolutionary and libbish. And the libs melted down. They could've just agreed that, yeah, it's libbish and that's a good thing to them.

@Jonathan_Blow Likely true. I think "they" also need bodies to care about things and know what is irrelevant (on the way to actually being intelligent) so maybe the longer we keep them from bodies due to stuff-breaking the better

Theory: We don't let LLMs control robots and operate freely in the physical world (yet?) because they'd fall all the time, break everything, and cause massive damage. But in software the falling and the massive damage are invisible, so it's fine. x.com/sama/status/20…

@JosephJakeKlein @philoshua @History__Speaks 2+2 = 4 is true regardless of us testing it...but we can also test it. Because it's a positive claim. Can we test this person's theory that something "cannot work" or is categorically impossible? Science doesn't generally get involved with proving negatives. Theory, not science

@IIsnaut @philoshua @History__Speaks 2+2=4 is an entirely a priori true claim that does not require empirical evidence. Similarly, albeit requiring many more intermediate steps to prove, so is the claim that rational economic calculation cannot occur without free market prices.

@JosephJakeKlein @philoshua @History__Speaks I'm sure you can do economic theory in all sorts of ways but to say something "cannot work" implies knowing this with the absolute certainty that empirically tested claims provide. Especially about categorically denying future events, which enters scientism

That’s exactly what it says, and you do not understand economic theory if you believe that the only correct way of doing economics is empirical. In fact, that’s one of the worst ways of getting at accurate economic theory. You can read the old debates between the German Historical School and Austrian School to see how that purely empirical viewpoint was discredited.

@JosephJakeKlein @philoshua @History__Speaks Also its not scientifically viable as far as economic theory to say something "cannot work". If that is what that book truly says as a thesis it is not science but scientism. Hopefully you are just paraphrasing

@IIsnaut @philoshua @History__Speaks Humans aren’t ants, and I’d really encourage you to read the economic theory on the topic. It’s one thing to understand that communist economies have not worked, it’s quite another to understand that communist economies cannot work. Mises lays this out with incredible rigor.

@JosephJakeKlein @philoshua @History__Speaks Unfortunately in the only test cases we have when they began to work or somewhat worked, they were immediately crushed or undermined by outside forces. Allende being an example. The control (a socialist country without meddling/sanctions/regime change attempts) doesn't exist.

Communist economies do not work, as has been proven repeatedly by economists. If you’re not aware of this voluminous area of study, you can start by reading Mises’s Economic Calculation in the Socialist Commonwealth. Yes, the sanctions are not helpful and their intent is to harm their economy. But Russia and Iran also have crushing sanctions and are not nearly as poor as Cuba.
