Pleased to meet with H.E. Jeffrey Siow, Acting Minister for Transport of Singapore 🇸🇬. We held productive discussions on the evolving situation in the Strait of Hormuz, the importance of freedom of #navigation, and maritime #decarbonization.

Arrived in Singapore and began with a Fireside Chat hosted by @MPA_Singapore engaging with participants from the Maritime Transformation and Innovation Programme. I then visited @NTUsg to meet #maritime students, always inspiring to engage future leaders shaping the sector.

Met with Mr. Shri Vijay Kumar, Secretary of Ports, Shipping and Waterways of India, to discuss developments in the Strait of Hormuz and their implications for #seafarers, as well as maritime safety and security. We also exchanged on India’s continued engagement with IMO.

We are currently verifying the recent announcement related to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, in terms of its compliance with freedom of navigation for all merchant vessels and secure passage using the IMO established traffic separation scheme.

Updating Member States and NGOs today on IMO plans to evacuate 20,000 #seafarers from the Persian Gulf using the existing traffic separation scheme in Strait of Hormuz. Safety guarantees are needed. I will continue to engage with relevant States.
