Derby week isn't the time to hunt for speed figures, pedigree notes, & workout clues etc. So I built the guide with everything. 20 years hitting winners at a 75% clip, which still surprises me. imtbreds - 2026-kentucky-derby-guide

For anyone harping on So Happy's dosage index being 7.00 (still can't believe we're doing this in 2026), consider this: When Mandaloun was elevated to 1st in the '21 Kentucky Derby, his dosage was 11.00. Now it reads 1.86. That should tell you all you need to know about dosage.

@Tinky47flat I call horses like that "polite horses" because they let others go first!

‡ Who Wants It More? I stumbled across this clip about a week ago, and immediately wondered whether the runner-up (red and black silks) really wanted to go past the winner, as he seemed to hang slightly, and reinforced the impression after the wire. So I went to his form, and he is now 1/17 with 3 seconds and 3 thirds. Interestingly, he controlled the pace in his lone victory, a running style that can help faint-hearted horses to win, despite the weakness. In contrast, the winner of the embedded race recorded his fourth win in 21 starts. The main reason that I point this out is because that small clue could have proven quite valuable to sharp-eyed bettors, had it been the first or second start for the runner-up. That is because the earlier that one is able to identify what was once widely referred to as a "sucker horse", the more attractive the opportunities to bet against it are likely to be, before the weakness becomes obvious to the masses.
