People who say Yavokhir and Aryun for Javokhir and Arjun, do they not hear the difference or is it some sort of a statement?

@AlvarAlonso @chessable Considering Nils is not a 1.d4 player and the position after b5 is one of the main engine suggestions against Be2 Be3 KID, I think Magnus just wanted to get some position where it's less about forcing lines and more about manouvering.

This would've been a bit more funkier and with the style of my suggestions on @chessable . e5 dxe5 Bxc5 b4!? or even Re8 as now white has Be2 instead of h3. I'd say what Magnus got is much riskier in practice. Funny 8. ... a6 9. a4 Qe7! Was equalising inmediately

This position has been occurred in the game Kacharava-Ivanchuk, 6th round of European Individual Championship 2026. After exciting game and holding the fortress with rook on 5th rank for 30 moves Ivanchuk suddenly played 85...Rxh4?? having 5 min on his clock. The move obviously loses due to White king penetration to f7(g8). White won easily. How to explain such a mistake?

@RoizMichael83 Looks great for white but would have never guessed the advantage is so big. Black bishop just out of play so as the old saying goes, white is up a bishop

This curious position could have been reached in my game vs Kuzubov, Y, Denmark 2008. Black is up a pawn, but White is just much better here, almost winning! Any guess why? 🤠

@durarbayli Imo good message but badly delievered. The stab at Erdogmus fans is too much imo. Most are probably casuals that enjoy chess. The real problem is with FIDE system not with them. Lets be happy that people come home from job, take time and cheer for a chess player.

I am happy to see Erdoğmuş gaining Turkish fans, and that's amazing. But some of them are just lunatics. Erdoğmuş is an incredible player, and him crossing 2700 was a matter of time. At his age, these are jaw-dropping results, and I have praised him before. Even my previous post praised him. However, Topalov is a highly overrated player. He is 51 years old and has rarely played since 2020. He played only 2 classical games in 2024, where he lost 0-2 to Vidit (2726). His last rapid event against lower-rated players in 2025 didn't look good either. He is a great champion, but please, give me a break. Anyone, come and tell me he is not highly overrated right now. With that said, this is not Erdoğmuş's problem. It is FIDE's problem. Rating decay must be introduced. We saw what happened in the Candidates, and we're seeing it here.

2,5/4 in European Championship so far, yesterday funny draw against @Kaldas90 , although I'm lucky to dodge this position, which didn't happen. White to move! (also puzzle of the week #15/2026)

@PHChess @GRENKEChess I agree. Imo the the problem with freestyle, as a tournament, is that some positions are clearly more promising for white leading to quite a bit of variance/luck based on the draw. Sometimes it feels like black is just strugling from the start trying to keep the balance.

To me the @GRENKEChess showed that Freestyle with the classical time control, leads to incredibly interesting chess. I understand most disagree, but look at the games even so. They are titanic struggles, mixing strategic complexity, with unusual tactics. Chess at its finest!

@durarbayli When I analyzed this line from black side some months ago I concluded that prolly no human can find the Best moves for white in the Qd8 line so yes, it's big oversight but at least there's an explanation for it.

@durarbayli At low depth castle is zeroes but once u get to like depth 30-40 engine starts to give some advantage for white. Than at super high depths it shows 0.00 once again and wants to play Qa5 b4 N:b4. Ig the engine was at those depths and they didnt check further.

What the hell is having a hole on move 12 in the Candidates? Come on! I explained in depth why it's wrong, but I guess it doesn't change anyone's mind. Seriously? Even Under-10 World Championship preparation may not have that. Just saying.
Vasif Durarbayli@durarbayli

I have been seeing a lot of comments from chess fans about Nakamura blaming his team. Clearly, most of them don't understand the gravity of the mistake. The world of seconds has changed dramatically. In the past, mistakes came from checking so many lines with limited time, and if you did not leave the engine running long enough in certain positions, it could give you a completely wrong evaluation. The most famous example is the Kramnik-Leko World Championship match of 2004, the Marshall variation. Today, no such mistakes exist. Therefore, as a second, your job is to predict what your player will be playing. And missing 12…0-0 here is a serious issue. This is a complex position, and as you can see, 12…0-0 shows on my weaker engine (don't pay attention to the 88 CPU) as the third line. As a professional second, you reach this position, and this is what you could call a tabia. You need to check the main lines. Let's say you assume that 0-0 is not a likely human move, you write two moves and commentary, and you leave. BTW, there was already a game. If you miss it entirely, then shame on you. Of course, Hikaru could have kept this private. But he is a public figure with a large following. He needs to explain what happened and why he spent so much time there. Additionally, it was a psychological blow. You play your sharpest line to surprise your opponent, and you have a hole on move 12? I am not even talking about the fact that you are playing against the tournament leader and an extremely sharp player. You will have an extremely difficult time composing yourself and finding the right continuation in this complex position. Hence, spending too much time usually leads to a mistake. With that said, Hikaru's reaction may have been a bit extreme, but not out of reason. Their team messed up big. I don't know who they are, but this is a mistake that should not happen at this level, and they can take some heat.

This shit is honestly so boring. I get soloq/league burnout very fast and can't grind more than a week or so without taking a break. After 2-3 day break im instantly 300 LP further away from Challenger cutoff like how is this fun for anyone that doesnt play 30 games a day?
Griffin@GriffinHQ_

last season we had a singular person over 2k lp, and they held rank 1,2 and 3 spot. now we have 9 people at or very close to 2k and its been 3 weeks :) is this healthy?

A curious study from Chinese League. White is a piece up, but activity of opponent's pieces makes it tougher to convert. Still, one strong move here, and 1-0 is almost guaranteed!👊

@TiffnyMichelle @pokerorg @TVPokerRoom Video feels like either bait or way to result oriented. Tournaments are filled with variance and you can't win without luck. You can improve your chances of winning by doing the best play every hand regardless of the hand outcome.

@surreal_ex @tombos21 @hungryhorsepokr Why would you ever donk if you know villain is always range betting? Makes no sense to me. You usually donk OOP when you don't want IP to xb medium SDV hands. Since villain is range betting IP, donking losses it's merit. The exploit is to check raise agressively.

@tombos21 @hungryhorsepokr Unrelated but involves checking oop vs bet happy villains. I was having a discussiom with some friends today about solver exploits and we wondered the following: If villains will always bet with range ip, should we ever play leads or donks on any street in a chip ev model?

There's a reason @hungryhorsepokr advocates for checking to recreational players on the flop. It's well known that fish turn their hands face up when you check to them on dynamic textures. Example: BvB on QJ9r. If BB has a “bet any pair” tendency, SB can exploit by checking range and letting BB self-identify strength. Sure, “bet any pair” is an extreme nodelock. But it doesn’t take much information asymmetry before the optimal play funnels every hand into this line. Moral of the story: Sometimes you need to take your foot off the gas and let your opponent tell you what they have.

@EmilSutovsky I also think, regarding the games that count towards hitting the target number, only games against 2500+ (or maybe 2400+) should count since those are titled level opponents. Regarding the other questions in the post I don t have a strong opionion.

@EmilSutovsky 2700 is the target for most players that wish to become professionals so I think the decay should target them. Chess calendar can be very busy or sometimes very empty in a Spawn of 4-5 months so I think the number of games for decay should be for a period of an year.

FIDE questionnaire was sent to 150 players couple of days ago, and we already got few dozens of answers. We expect to collect 100+ replies by the next week, and then FIDE will review it all before taking a decision if to change anything, and if yes, how to change it. Meanwhile, you are welcome to share here your opinion on the most critical questions: Do you think the ratings for top players shall decay? Shall there be a rating decay, what should be a minimum of classical rated games per year? What shall be a minimal average opposition for that player to count towards the total (no minimum/his own Elo minus 200/minus 400). Shall this minimum not be reached, would you find it fair to deduct rating points (if yes, how many)? Or maybe use a higher K-factor, but only for their negative results? To remind everyone: today it is enough to play one rated game per year in order not to be considered inactive. And even if you are inactive, and then resume playing, you get back with the same rating. Do you feel it should be kept like that?
