Iran already had the capability, but American air superiority made it difficult for Iran to employ its air defences.

I’m going to use the Iranian hit on the F-35 to explain something important. Iran does not have medium- or long-range radars. That’s why American and Israeli aircraft can carry out strikes without being detected. That’s exactly why the US and Israel currently enjoy air superiority over Iran.
