Prof. Jagat Narula MD PhD, President, @worldheartfed (World Heart Federation), delivers the keynote “Ageing and CVD: What you sow, so shall you reap…”, highlighting that cardiovascular health in later life is shaped by choices, care, and policy across the life course. His key message: investing in cardiovascular prevention today determines how we age tomorrow. CARDIO-India aims to translate this evidence into scalable action for older adults in India. #CVD #HealthyAgeing #CARDIOIndia #NCDs @INDIACCDC @uniofleicester

@DrDPrabhakaran , Executive Director, @INDIACCDC, closed the national symposium with a strong call for collaboration across disciplines and sectors to reimagine ageing and longevity in India. He noted that with nearly 230 million older adults expected in the coming decades, India must begin preparing now. He announced that the discussions from the symposium will feed into a white paper to help guide future action and policy. He also emphasised the need to prioritise women’s health in the ageing population, while proposing the creation of a collaborative platform of stakeholders who participated in the symposium to continue working together and strengthen efforts toward healthy ageing in India. #HealthyAgeing #Longevity #PublicHealth #Ageing #India #WomensHealth @NIHRresearch @uniofleicester

For #IWD2026, we spoke with our colleagues and asked one simple question — Who motivated your career in science? For Dr Ruby Gupta, Senior Research Scientist and Head – Laboratory at CCDC, the person who shaped her journey in science the most is her mother, Mrs Asha Kumari. She shared, “She was a simple, intelligent, hardworking, and focused woman. If I am in the science stream today, it is entirely because of her determination and belief in me. When I was in school, I fell short of a few marks required to be selected for the science stream. At that time, my father was suffering from a slip disc and was bedridden, and other family members withdrew their support. However, my mother refused to give up. In the early 1980s, when transportation facilities were very limited, she travelled nearly eight kilometres from our home to my school to meet the principal and request that I be allowed to take the science stream. Her determination was clear—she wanted her daughter to receive a good education in a convent school and pursue science. Going to school was not easy in those days. I had to cross the River Ganga, walk for about a kilometre, and then take the school bus. The roads were poor, and even getting a simple pedal rickshaw was difficult. Winter mornings were especially challenging, with thick fog at 6:00 AM. Yet, every day my mother walked the entire distance with me to the bus stop to make sure I reached safely. Throughout my life, she has been my greatest strength and inspiration. Her sacrifices, determination, and unwavering support shaped the person I am today.” This month, the @INDIACCDC takes a moment to celebrate the heroes who quietly stand behind many remarkable careers in science. #WomenInScience #IWD2026
