Stress “REALITY” Don’t mistake any/all decision-making within training as being “game-like” decisions. What information does the athlete need to see/feel to make a decision? In what span of time? Are we replicating that challenge, or creating a decision irrelevant of the game?

I once heard a great Ichiro story from his first Spring Training in the states. He kept getting jammed and flaring balls the other way. Pinella was loudly voicing his opinion that Ichiro couldn’t hit the fastball in the dugout, assuming he didn’t understand English. Next at bat, Ichiro launches a homer to RF and comes back to the dugout and says in crystal clear English, “Can I go back to getting ready for the season now?” What a legend. Congrats on the HOF

Sound process & identifying the tools most correlated to production is vital. But we can’t become so hyper-focused on ingredients that we lose sight of the actual meal. Inputs are only as good as the outputs they help produce. A balancing act to keep both in perspective, for sure

Thought: Maybe there’s some merit to “situational rounds” beyond giving up an out for a 90. They train the ability to hunt a zone in the name of getting the barrel to the top, bottom, inside, and/or outside of the ball. Similar game as hammering carry, cut, sink, depth, or sweep

I reference this Votto clip a lot w/ infielders, but trade barrel control for glove action i.e. can you press, funnel, and/or work low to high on the same short hop? The best can take a controlled, predictable environment and interact with it in a variety of ways the game demands
