Looking forward to presenting some ongoing research which I am doing with @Robbiembutler this week at the @IPECEWorkshop event in @UCC. Our paper looks at the role of consumer preferences for @premierleague content.

📣Submissions are now open for the @IrishEconAssoc IPECE 2025 Workshop hosted by @economicsucc 📷Postdoctoral / early-career researchers, and PhD students based on the island of Ireland, working in any area of economics, are welcome to submit. Details below. Closing date 26 Nov.

We have had 23 presentations, a panel discussion, a keynote lecture, and over 50 attendees over two days. We thank everyone for fantastic two days of research, discussion, and networking.

It’s a wrap for #IPECE2024!

The keynote addresses the need for “good” evidence for public policy, the current replication crisis, and ways to improve economic research.

Wrapping up #IPECE2024 is our keynote speaker: Pete Lunn (@ESRIDublin), “Not being falsely positive: the need for more open science practice in economics”.

@OhlerJohann @GiacomoLoConte Completing the session is @iris_siedler and the economic geography of Eurasia, exploring the long-run effect of the Soviet plan economy.

@OhlerJohann Going forward in time, @GiacomoLoConte explores innovation and inequality in German cities.

Second set of parallel sessions on Day 2 of the #IPECE2024: regional economics and family and childhood.

@C_MacDomhnaill @simone_arrigoni Last up, Thomas Bell @Inter_Trade to explore cross-Ireland trade.

@C_MacDomhnaill Next up is @simone_arrigoni and how the transmission of US monetary policy around the world is tempered by income inequality.

Day 2 of #IPECE2024 starts off with parallel sessions in education economics and a international economics.

Message of the day: Communication and preparation.

Finishing up Day 1 of #IPECE2024: Panel Discussion on "Preparing for the Economics Job Market". Panelists included Rowena Dwyer (@IRLDeptPER), @YaremkoV (@tcdeconomics), @Deirdre_AR (@ESRIDublin), and David Fleming (@AIBIreland). Intro: @KevinDenny. Moderator: @KillianCarroll_.

Rounding out the Public Finance session: Michele Pelli on how Swiss households responded to negative rates on their bank deposits. Customers sought out more investments and distributed their excess holdings across multiple banks.

Next up, @KillianCarroll_, who explored the macroeconomic effects of all tax policy changes in Ireland going all the way back to 1945, classifying each change based on its motivation.
