Lets make a real comparison. How many groups of holiday cottages built in coastal and rural Sligo,Donegal and Leitrim no longer in tourism market. Now permanently occupied, on council or ARP contracts. Its a housing issue, caused by planning issues and not tourism

Comparing a snapshot from platforms Daft and Airbnb is not clear data. Galway has 7000 (18.7%) empty buildings, 1000 derelict properties, 5000 holiday homes not used for STR, 2000 self-catering properties. Need data on the number of unfinished estates, void social housing🧵

Tralee to Cloghane village on the Dingle Peninsula, no hotels and only a handful of guest houses. Yet that local economy is sustained by tourism. Bars, restaurants, water sports, boat tours, all create jobs. Tourists stay in short term lets now. It is about balance

Stop blaming Self-catering for the housing crisis. Data is essential, with a Register for STR giving clear data on self-catering. No data on Ghost STR properties longterm occupied. Empty properties - HSE 230 buildings, OPW 776 buildings, Derelict buildings 20,000+😡

Derelict homes in Dublin too expensive to renovate! Many BnB and hostels being used for emergency housing. Self-catering in towns above 20,000 population being closed down. Where will domestic and overseas tourists stay in Dublin - hotels! irishtimes.com/ireland/dublin…
