#Pakistan🇵🇰 #IHRF's official statement. The International Human Rights Foundation has conducted a meticulous review of the legal proceedings against Mr Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister, and Mr Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the former Foreign Minister. Our findings reveal a disturbing disregard for the basic principles of justice and due process. We note with deep concern the lack of basic procedural safeguards in their trials. The denial of access to their chosen legal counsel, the closure of the trial to the public and the prohibition of cross-examination of prosecution witnesses are flagrant violations of rights enshrined in international law, including the right to a fair trial and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. The charges against Mr Khan and Mr Qureshi appear to be grossly exaggerated, the allegations remain unproven and suggest a political undertone to their prosecution. Such practices not only undermine the credibility of the legal system, but also violate the principles of justice and fairness at the heart of international human rights law. The lack of transparency and impartiality in the conduct of these trials casts a long shadow over the rule of law and the administration of justice in the country concerned. In light of these findings, the International Human Rights Foundation unequivocally calls for the immediate quashing of the trial proceedings against Mr Imran Khan and Mr Shah Mehmood Qureshi. We call for the withdrawal of all charges and their immediate release from custody. We also call for a thorough and impartial investigation to determine the criminal liability of those involved in orchestrating this miscarriage of justice. Pakistan:— Former PM Imran Khan, his wife Bushra given 14 years jail for selling state gifts, just a week ahead of upcoming general elections. — This has come day after Khan was given 10 years jail for publicising state secrets while he was PM. — Khan, who remains country's most popular leader, has been facing over 150 cases after he was removed. — Khan's PTI party has been deprived of election symbol, forcing it to deploy its candidates as "independents". — Many of Khan's party leaders have been in jail, while dozens others have been forced to quit politics after 9 may violent protests last year. — Elections are dated on 8 February. However, many analysts believe that elections won't be "free and fair".
