super excited to have been selected for this award! the funding will be supporting my interview study with ASL instructors (already collected) and hearing disabled ASL students (to be collected) about the experience of disability in L2 ASL classrooms

Reimbursement culture is used to ensure that you don't have too many of "the poors" getting access to graduate school or becoming professors. Reimbursement culture also banks on people giving up on the process and supplementing the bottom line of the institution.

3. And finally if you're looking for literature on the biases I just mentioned, the terms you want are: fat bias, anti-fat bias, weight bias, fatphobia, attractiveness bias, attractiveness halo. This recent study below being just one example:

Weight + attractiveness bias is rampant in academic spaces (as it is basically everywhere) and it goes unchecked.

@Linguischick Adam Schembri noted they used blue for this reason in the BSL corpus project-- which reminded me blue was also used for ASL-LEX! Seems to be the go-to :) But that was also done with a photography background, which may be an option if they really push for the grey wall?

The lab design team is telling me that a shade of grey is the best color for a wall that I intend to use as background. Specifically, the wall will serve as a background for naturalistic sign language video data recording. Thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions?

This implementaiton of "aritculatory energy" (from Gökgöz, Keles, +Biligili) is super interesting to me. Really cool work! I'm thinking of what it could tell us about effort in articulation for signers with motor differences/limb differences/chronic pain 👀 #BUCLD
