Resource share: I made a baby experiment for my intro lingsters as a group activity that went over super well! It's based on a real paper that is accessible & brief. Fits in 1 hour. Nice for touching on pragmatics, psycholing, & reading scientific articles. Drive link below! :)

P.S., one thing that is clear from even a preliminary look at the interview data as that Deaf ASL instructors want guidance on disabled students' experiences; if you have suggestions for avenues you'd like for the findings of this research to be shared at, please do send my way!

super excited to have been selected for this award! the funding will be supporting my interview study with ASL instructors (already collected) and hearing disabled ASL students (to be collected) about the experience of disability in L2 ASL classrooms

3. And finally if you're looking for literature on the biases I just mentioned, the terms you want are: fat bias, anti-fat bias, weight bias, fatphobia, attractiveness bias, attractiveness halo. This recent study below being just one example: inderscienceonline.com/doi/abs/10.150…

@Linguischick Adam Schembri noted they used blue for this reason in the BSL corpus project-- which reminded me blue was also used for ASL-LEX! Seems to be the go-to :) But that was also done with a photography background, which may be an option if they really push for the grey wall?

The lab design team is telling me that a shade of grey is the best color for a wall that I intend to use as background. Specifically, the wall will serve as a background for naturalistic sign language video data recording. Thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions? #SignLanguageTwitter

This implementaiton of "aritculatory energy" (from Gökgöz, Keles, +Biligili) is super interesting to me. Really cool work! I'm thinking of what it could tell us about effort in articulation for signers with motor differences/limb differences/chronic pain 👀 #BUCLD

As I learn more about about disability in Palestinian, I have heard this idea repeatedly from Palestinians: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a western construct. There is no “post-trauma” for Palestinians.

Just learned they’re on Twitter— so wanted to S/O @parisgap for being awesome as always with the accessibility tech and accommodations at #BUCLD :) (as the conference always is in general too)

To this end, I'd really like to see more pragmatic inference work between autistic-autistic communication pairs

Autistic people are going to be used to not having the same conversational goals (implicit or explicit) as allistic people. They might not assume implicit cooperation bc they've learned to not even assume the same common ground and goals

Thought re: a talk on autism/pragmatics-- an attendee stated that certain pragmatic inferences are expected if the listener assumes the speaker is cooperative. But don't autistic folks have lots of reason to not expect "cooperative" interlocutors?
