Our fur baby, the beloved Mr. Sashes, has passed away today. He was my first dog. Before him, I didn't understand why humans were so emotional about their dogs. After 15+ years with him, I fully 100% understand. A brief message in his honor: To Mr Sashes, with love.

@mdemeulder @drcastone Thanks for sharing this. Reminds me of an older article entitled "Why aren't they looking at me?" which addressed the multimodal learning environment in education so that interpreters working in those spaces remember students need not solely attend to them in order to learn.

@DrJKWallace Man, that's the real life out here in these academic "streets". I would've said, in my saccharine Southern voice, "Oh, you work for parking? Congrats on that. Let me know when my request for my reserved parking spot comes through. Don't work too hard in this heat. " HA!

She then says, “your parking pass looks inauthentic; it doesn’t look like ours.” I know she’s lying but I look anyway. “Looks the same to me, ma’am.”

Usually I don’t talk about stuff like this because frankly it happens way too often. But not today… As I pulled into the same faculty parking lot that I park in all the time @msstate, a white woman was coming out of my office building. Her car was parked next to the space I pulled into.

@camhmorin @AdamCSchembri I use participant, as in a participant in a communicative event or an interaction event.

I am looking for inclusive terminology extending the notions of "speaker/hearer" to non-spoken language users. Any references? @AdamCSchembri

@liamsims Do you remember your WHY? Write that down then briefly summarize WHAT you did and the impact of your work. 1 page max. It's the only time you'll have to revel in all of the tiny little details of your thesis. Get excited! You are ending 1 part of your journey. Congrats!

PhD viva is in 2.5 weeks. Anyone who’s been there before, especially in the humanities: any pointers? Questions you wish you’d had a better answer to, things you talked about that went well? I don’t feel compelled to go mad with prep, but want to make sure I’m feeling confident.
