The Tunnel has arrived and I was not prepared for how massive it is. Sorting under “big books I really ought to read”:

Where I’ve been, where I am and where I’m going. My Shadow Ticket warmup and a slow reread I should appreciate more than the frenzied page turn I gave it upon release.

@Passing_Time8 Oh they’re different books. The Javier Serena is a fiction about Aliocha Coll.

@IainSmithNZ I know one has his real name and the other his pseudonym but are these two different books or just different editions?

I’m late getting these but, let’s be honest, I was never not going to. Moths, flames etc.

@KatyaTaylor I highly recommend it! I didn’t get a chance to do the museum or gallery on this visit but hope to when I’m back next time.

Auckland haul, and a special shoutout to Lamplight Books in Parnell. I have never seen so many NYRB books in one place in NZ. A tight, very well curated selection of fiction right there.

@ColeRobinhood I wasn’t aware! My Priest intake has been very low. Read The Inverted World years ago but that’s it. This one looked / sounded interesting, my kind of thing.

The book fair results are in. I half expected not to find anything but at $3 a pop there was not a lot of filtering going on. Macunaíma, The Third Policeman and ABC of Reading were courtesy of Liberty Books.

@fastercamels That’s a big find. I saw a copy in Hastings about 18 months ago and left it sitting as I already had it - didn’t realise it was out of print at the time.

@WhatHoARat Yeah, I think that’s about right. Not game changing, but fun. Easy read after something more challenging.

@IainSmithNZ I read Inverted World and The Prestige and thought both were fun. Didn't blow me away but they were solid. Inverted World had that sci-fi problem where i enjoyed it more before it started explaining everything at the end.
