Court system at 'brink of collapse', former senior judge warns
bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
"some suspects being charged with offences today are already being told their cases won't be dealt with until 2030."
English

@LBC There was never a limit of what police would/wouldn't deal with. The £200 was whether it would be dealt with summarily or either way at Court.
Most shoplifters are career criminals. If people were stealing to feed a family there wouldn't be public interest in prosecuting

Merry Christmas to you all. I worked an early shift today. It was busy enough but thankfully I finished on time. Hope you've all had/are having an amazing day #police #thinblueline #Christmas2025 #MerryChristmas

2 1/2 yrs from offence to conviction, although unacceptable long, is much shorter than many other cases I'm aware of. Court delays are not fair on victims & put the public at risk.

@policecommander I did a transferee interview yesterday with a Met PC with 22 years service looking to leave for the same reason.....

@Teamgrassroots_ It's a crazy world that we ha e to worry about thisnsort of things. I referee many girls and womens game and they all say "man on". I've never heard anyone say anything different

COACH asking for advice, "Man on or NOT"
I'm a new coach with a girls U11 team who started this year, this might sound really silly but I don't want to upset anyone, I grew up with using the term man on, as a warning a player was close by. I haven't used it yet as I try to shout the players name, shout look out, or if I can think quick enough Player on, ironically all the girls on the team actually do say Man on. Am I overthinking this and should I say Man on, or avoid it? Thanks in advance

Even though I'm on an early shift tomorrow, I still find myself hooked to watching the new season on @BBCMOTD. Caffeine will be needed in the morning!

@MarietteSohns @BerksandBucksFA I refereed from under 10 to adults. Most of my games were adult mens which were where the vast majority of cards were issued. Difficult to compare to last season as I refereed more adult games this season than last & didn't keep my own records of cards from last season.
English

@IainWatkinson @BerksandBucksFA Can you specify the age groups of yellow and red cards? Is that more or less than the previous season?
English

Reflection on the 2024/25 football season:
53 games as referee or AR across all age groups for females & males.
Promoted from L7-L6 & will hopefully get promoted to L5 early next season.
53 yellow cards & 12 red cards issued.
Here's to a great 2025/26 season

This suspect was charged with drink driving, dangerous driving, failing to provide a specimen for analysis & failing to stop for police. Bailed to court and a driving ban awaits!

Cases like this remind you how dangerous policing is. Last night a car drove at me, failed to stop, drove at speed through a town centre. It was pursued by colleagues & eventually stopped & driver arrested who was more than x2 the drink drive limit 🤬 bbc.com/news/articles/…

@IainWatkinson Hope you're okay. 🙏
I honestly don't know what planet some people live on.

@MarietteSohns No I'm all good thanks and wasn't hit. Sometimes you need a bit of luck!

‘The Wire’ is the best analogy for modern Policing.
Policies will change with Politics, and so it will always continue. One big spinning wheel of inevitability, where the problems are known by everyone, but somehow there’s never quite enough money to actually solve any of them.
It’s why one of our key management principles is ‘efficient use of resources’ (AKA making it work), we never have enough resources and never will.
If you haven’t seen it, sit back, enjoy and when it hits you, laugh as hard as you can.
“You know what I was thinking? That tonight’s a good night. Why? Because my shot Cop didn’t die. Then it hit me. This is what makes a good night on my watch. Absence of a negative.”

The realities of frontline policing......
Tom Gaymor 🎙️@TomGaymor
Last night I spent a shift with a @metpoliceuk ERPT team dealing with 999 calls. It is impossible to explain just how surreal an experience being out with these officers is, the officers are exposed to situations no one should see. Here are my notes from the opening two hours.
