@CDamianWrites @BrianFragaNCR An answer that could have been given that could have been believed by a charitable hearer is “I was visiting my family and my nephew got ahold of my phone and decided to follow a bunch of accounts like that as a prank.” He’d have to have this excuse often, but it might work.

A few months ago, I shared how Bishop Barron had followed provocative male accounts on his Facebook. Word on Fire explained it away, saying he had been the subject of a recent hack. The problem? He had followed similar accounts, going at least as far back as January 2024...

@mary_pezzulo That’s what defines their morality: production of soldiers. Abortion is bad because it decreases future soldiers. Being gay is bad because it decreases future soldiers (mitigated to grudging tolerated by IVF, surrogacy, adoption).

I do not understand the "teen fertility crisis" thing. Do you have any idea how horrified conservatives were by teen pregnancy in the 90s and early oughts? Getting pregnant was the most shameful and destructive thing a teen could do, until suddenly it wasn't.

@Pontifex No billionaire has done a billion dollars worth of work. Nobody becomes rich through ethical means. It always requires trampling on the dignity of other people and exploiting the hard work of others.

Hundreds of millions of people throughout the world are immersed in extreme poverty. Yet, disproportionate wealth remains in the hands of a few. It is an unjust scenario, in the face of which we cannot fail to question ourselves and commit to change things. There is no lack of resources at the root of disparities, but the need to address solvable problems related to a more equitable distribution of wealth, to be achieved with moral sense and honesty.

At this point there needs to be a modification to Miranda where the suspect is handed a copy the sacred Spell of Attorney Request to know how to chant the specific words magically invoking the right to counsel.
Orin Kerr@OrinKerr

From 2016: Defendant who is asked to sign consent form to allow search but replies, "I ain't signing shit without my attorney," has not invoked the 5th Amendment right to counsel, per Missouri SCT. scholar.google.com/scholar_case?c…

Papal prayer for peace in Latin and the trad-classics cloud instead spends its time complaining it is neither classical nor medieval all the while staying silent about the ongoing conflict. I am on team pope bad latin for this one.

@IamDCHiggins @ChristopherHale @janecoaston is there another bishop who fits the role better? Can think of two: Cardinal Erdo (Hungarian Cardinal, a close ally of Orban) - a finalist of the 2024 Conclave along w/ Cardinal Prevost (now Pope Leo), and Cardinal Burke (an ultra-conservative favorite of traditional Catholics)

@KatiePMcGrady If that were the kind of pope news we were going to expect as the norm, someone else—someone with JPII’s charisma and probably someone from the global south—would have been elected Pope.

@mary_pezzulo He doesn’t want to die like pope Francis and queen elizabeth after shaking his hand. Sure it’s martyrdom, but it’s still super undignified as a martyrdom.

@ChristopherHale @janecoaston Am I being uncharitable when I suspect that Bishop is being groomed to be the antipope in the American schism/Avignon scenario? It would explain his actions. Or is there another bishop who fits the role better? How many American Catholics would go along with schism?

It’s wild. “In January, behind closed doors at the Pentagon, Under Secretary of War for Policy Elbridge Colby summoned Cardinal Christophe Pierre — Pope Leo XIV’s then-ambassador to the United States — and delivered a lecture. “America, Colby and his colleagues told the cardinal, has the military power to do whatever it wants in the world. The Catholic Church had better take its side. “As tempers rose, one U.S. official reached for a fourteenth-century weapon and invoked the Avignon Papacy, the period when the French Crown used military force to bend the bishop of Rome to its will.” thelettersfromleo.com/p/the-pentagon…

Hewitt: Anyone in the US who read “the civilization to be destroyed” as the whole people of Iran is acting in bad faith… So people can act in bad faith. The president didn't. He was threatening the regime. They got the message. They begged for the ceasefire.

Am I reading the ceasefire agreements correctly? Israel doesn’t seem to be a party to it at all.
