@lexfridman’s podcast with Perplexity CEO Arvind Srinivas was a fascinating look at the thinking and mind behind that model. It’s also become a go to first for search. And a true LF wide ranging discussion with nuggets that “force you to think” podcasts.apple.com/za/podcast/lex…
Lex Fridman@lexfridman

By the way, Perplexity is awesome. They made me rethink what search & AI integration could be. It's often the first place I go to now when I need to start researching a new topic.

The findings of the investigation, as released by the COGTA, have dismissed the allegations as unfounded. The exhaustive review of evidence has shown that there is no basis to the claims the he unduly benefited from municipal funding. Read more: kzn.da.org.za/2024/02/da-pre…

Bongani is lying. As a mayor I have never had to get approval from any DA structure on appointments and hiring. The process is legislated and council appoints. In uMngeni most of the people who have been employed are ex-ANC/IFP administrators, hired without prejudice.

Commitment made, and now commitment met: We said we would let residential households earn cash for power from their solar PV generation systems. Today, Cape Town has officially become the first city to enable this. 🔋👏 We started with businesses, and now households too, can sell power back to the @CityofCT and help us end loadshedding in Cape Town over time. Ending load-shedding is the most important thing we can do for more job-creating economic growth in our city ✅ Read more: tinyurl.com/4zcb9atv

@paystack @PaystackSupport - you are aiding fraud by accepting payments for a fake business called SnugEase. Several customers have been defrauded, but seems you are still providing a payment facility to them. Every payment you accept for them is fraudulent. Are you going to do something?

When you’re in the area, try El Greeyo in Woodstock for great coffee! ☕️ Cuban-Capetonian owners Daniel, Kenia and their Cuban-Eritrean-now-Capetonian barista, Tesfaye, are doing something great here! I love seeing small businesses thriving in the city. Will be back!🌞

I visited the Pedersen + Lennard factory in Maitland to see this wonderful business thriving and employing more people! 🏭👩‍🏭🛋️ More jobs in Cape Town is our #1 mission! 🔥 I also so enjoy visiting manufacturing businesses in particular, because it is so unbelievably tough running a manufacturing business in SA with loadshedding. This business is thriving despite the odds, and I was very chuffed to hear that they are one of the growing number of businesses making use of the @CityofCT's "Cash for Power" offer through their sizeable solar installation 👏☀️🔋

If you're new to the real estate community on X this is a must-read. A thread on how most real estate folks structure deals with outside investors. Most GPs utilize the "preferred equity" structure when they raise money from outside investors. They "syndicate" deals. Here's the basics:

This view is backed up: "Vehicle type (passenger car versus SUV) is a much more important predictor of death than crash safety ratings in SUV versus passenger car head-on crashes." ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P… I looked into this after a motor vehicle death in the family and the answer I got was bigger vehicles are safer (bigger = over 2 tons / 4,400 pounds). That was a better predictor of safety than a particular brand of car.

This tweet makes people very upset because they know I’m right when they think critically about it. But I’m going to keep saying it so people wake up: Vehicle safety ratings are the greatest scam ever. They only test them against other similar sized vehicles and single car accidents. In a real world situation larger / higher vehicles are WAY SAFER and the media lies to everyone about this. It is physics. Put your family in a full sized SUV. Would you rather a texting high schooler’s bumper hit your child in the ankles or the shoulder? You can control roll overs and single car accidents. You can’t control getting hit. And when you do, the bigger vehicle and impact location wins every time. Where does an F150 bumper hit your rear passenger in a Tesla? Right in the face. How about a Suburban? The ankles. It’s the difference between walking away and death. If you have the means: Sell your Honda Leaf. Sell your sedan. Haul your family in a full size SUV or pickup truck.

Short term action inevitable, long term thinking vital. economist.com/international/… from @TheEconomist @Ibishblog ‘Terrorist and insurgent groups…resort to spectacular violence to provoke an irrational response: “They know that the harm that they can do to the dominant power is limited. They understand that the harm that the dominant power can do to itself is infinitely greater.”

Yes. Thin air. Money is a collective myth*. The people buying and selling the thing you own are willing to pay less than before, so the money you thought you had is gone. You start the day with 100 glasses of lemonade, and sell a few for $1 each. You look at the glasses you have left, 97, and say..wow, I've got a $97 dollars here. then the next few people walk up and say I'll only pay 50 cents. You look down at the 90 glasses left...I've only got $45 dollars here (90 glasses at 50 cents each). Poof, thin air. *See Yuval Noah Harari's book Sapiens, he does a good job of explaining collective myths. P.s. I subscribed to write this long tweet, so that's real money out the door ; )

When I lose money in the stock market where does that money go? Does it just disappear into thin air or does someone else get it?
