Proud to be a part of today’s groundbreaking for the state’s newest Dental College of Georgia campus. The Savannah facility will help us fill the growing need for more dentists in our state and offer more opportunities for careers right here at home so students don’t have to leave Georgia!

Congrats to this year’s small business ROCK STARS honored this afternoon in Savannah! As Small Business Week approaches, we’re proud of all the entrepreneurs who create jobs and opportunity in every part of Georgia.

While visiting with the first responders working to protect Georgians and their homes in the face of wildfires, I met Shanya Kadian of @GaTrees. She and US Marshal Jason Parrell bravely rescued 21 animals and assisted two others who were trapped while the fire fast approached the structure these dogs, cats, and Guinea pig were locked in. These animals are all safely housed now thanks to Recovery Farms for Vets in Folkston, which you can reach out to to support these animals and those assisting them. I’m so thankful for the courage and quick action of these heroes that saved these animals’ lives, and for all they and our firefighters are doing to protect both people, property, and pets during this time!

Another great example of Georgians helping Georgians. This is part of the very fabric of who we are as a state.

Grateful to spend time with state and local leaders today to get the latest updates on the two South Georgia wildfires. Thanks to the non-stop hard work and bravery of fire response crews, the Pineland Rd Fire is now 23% contained and the Hwy 82 Fire is 32% contained!

Marty and I are on the ground today with first responders and state officials in the fight against the South Georgia wildfires. Yet again, we’ve been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support that Georgians have shown for their neighbors. Thankful for the hardworking men and women of the @GeorgiaGuard! As of last night, they had dropped roughly 350,000 gallons of water on the wildfires and aren't letting up.

Marty, the girls, and I are saddened by the loss of former Chancellor Erroll B. Davis, Jr. Erroll was a trailblazer and a committed public servant who championed higher education and student success across our state. Georgia was made better because of his leadership, and his legacy will always be remembered. We are praying for his family and all those he impacted during this time.

Thank you to the first responders, EMA staff, and volunteers who continue to work overtime to fight these fires and support Georgians in need. Please keep these brave men and women in your prayers.

🔥 Wildfire Update – Georgia (4/27) Yesterday, the Georgia Forestry Commission responded to 10 new wildfires, burning 19.7 acres statewide. This does not include: • The Pineland Rd Fire, now estimated at 32,331 acres and 10% contained • The Highway 82 Fire in Brantley County, now estimated at 20,933 acres and 6% contained 🌧️ A note on conditions: We did receive some rain on the fires yesterday! Marty and I were with those on the ground helping the victims of the South Georgia wildfires yesterday, thanking the volunteers, first responders, and listening to the community leaders who are showing the very best of what it means to be a Georgian. We’re so thankful for their hard work.

Caring hands are also providing direct support to first responders, volunteers, and community members, including the Salvation Army in Brantley, the Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief, the Convoy of Hope, the Adventist Community Service Disaster Response, and the National World Kitchen in Waynesville and Nahunta.

Hardworking men and women have taken in those who have lost their homes, including the Red Cross in Brantley, Selden Park Shelter in Brunswick, Venture of Faith Camp in Lake Park, Little Memorial Baptist Church and Church of God of Prophecy in Hortense, and the Brantley County Library and Nahunta Church in Nahunta, Georgia.

When tragedy strikes, Georgians show up for each other. Marty, the girls, and I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and donations from the people of our state for their neighbors in need who have lost so much to the wildfires.

As we continue to throw everything possible at the wildfires in South Georgia, please keep those who have lost their homes in your thoughts and prayers. We won’t let up until these tough times have passed, and I ask that Georgians continue to do their part in preventing more fires.

🔥Wildfire Update – 4/24/26 The Georgia Forestry Commission responded to 32 new wildfires, burning 50 acres statewide. This does not include the Pineland Road Fire, now estimated at 31,976 acres and 10% contained, or the Highway 82 Fire in Brantley County, now estimated over 7,567 acres and 10% contained. With ongoing drought conditions and no significant rainfall in sight, wildfire activity remains elevated across Georgia. ⚠️Safety Reminders: ➡️ If you do not need to be in or near an active fire area, please stay out ➡️ No drones — flying drones near wildfires is illegal and can ground firefighting aircraft ➡️ Use caution on roadways where smoke may be present ➡️ Follow all instructions from local officials, including road closures and any potential evacuations We know families have already been impacted, and our thoughts are with those who have lost homes and property. We are incredibly grateful to the firefighters and first responders working around the clock in these challenging conditions, and to our local, state, and federal partners, as well as communities across Georgia, for their continued support. While fire and response crews from the state, local, and federal levels all remain in the fight in South Georgia, conditions have become even more extreme. I’m urging everyone in the affected areas to be extremely careful and heed law enforcement’s evacuation warnings. Pray for all those fighting these fires under these devastating conditions.

In response to the wildfires across Georgia, I am extending the application deadline for Hurricane Helene Block Grant Program to May 11, 2026. We would never put Georgia farmers in a situation where they would be forced to choose between responding to this current natural disaster or submitting their application for relief from last.

🚁 No Drones Over Wildfires — It’s Dangerous and Illegal A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) is currently in place over the fire areas and is in effect 24/7. If you fly a drone near a wildfire, we can’t fly. That means: ⚠️ Firefighting aircraft may be forced to leave the area or not launch at all ⚠️ Critical suppression efforts are delayed ⚠️ Lives, property, and firefighters are put at greater risk This isn’t just a rule, it’s about safety and response time when every second matters. 🚫 No drones in wildfire areas Please help keep our crews safe and allow them to do their job.
