Ian Haig

This is Alex Haig, Ian’s son, writing. It is with great sadness I wish to announce that Ian passed away on the 24th of February 2023. Ian was a loving husband, proud father, doting grandfather, reliable friend, excellent engineer and mentor to many. He is much loved.

@paullewismoney You could have it bead blasted back to bare metal then replated with copper or nickel. If it is actually solid brass shot blasting back to bare metal then repolishing should work.

Tonight in the Lords, Labour has voted against our new protest powers for police. The British people don’t like seeing their daily life brought to a standstill, by a tiny minority using extreme tactics.

Countries are investing hundreds of millions into developing Proton Beam capable cancer centres. Spain for example is spending a huge amount of money... Here in the UK - three centres are empty, gathering dust. State-of-the-art cancer treatment and we're being left behind.

@RogerMorton11 @Hill_Museums I believe this is looking towards the south. think pre 1938 as there are no houses on the right side of the photo, this is now Orchard Drive, I believe built by Try's just before WW2.

@Hill_Museums I think more likely the Edwardian era, judging by the dress. Cowley Station opened in 1904, so perhaps then.

@SM_Fletcher @avfletcher Yes, far more effective than fuses. Although one's chances of surviving a mains voltage shock are a lot higher than most people think. I think fuses are only useful for reducing fire risk not protecting life.

@avfletcher I am fairly sure Steve will have installed miniature circuit breakers (MCBs) and a residual current circuit breaker (RCCB) not fuses. Although there is of course a fuse in the plug. Be interesting to know what "blew" in this case. Generally MCBs and RCCB confer better protection.

A sincere thank you to everyone for the support. Proton Beam Therapy is one of the most cutting-edge cancer treatment technologies in the world. UK capacity is desperately short already, so to have three machines unused is mad. Oncologist colleagues abroad cannot believe it.
