@ianbennell75 Personally I’d stick to Toyota followed by Honda and Mazda. My last 600,000 miles have all been in Japanese cars and not had a single problem of any sort. Just what a birder requires.

Question. Would you buy a car that’s 4 years old, has only done just under 8,000 miles but has no service history (presumably not had one due to lack of miles)?

It looks as though Streetmap.co.uk is working again, rescued by crowdfunding and should be used to build there advertising revenue. A great free aid to birding as OS maps are still the best. @LeeEvansBirding

@sferguk My first morning ever in South Africa, in the High Veldt, stepped outside the hotel room and there was a pair. Not common in that area. Seen several since but never forgotten those on that first morning.

I love that this is just a run of the mill commonish bird in the Western Cape. Blows my mind every time I see it. Bokmakierie WCNP. 🇿🇦

@DevonBirder 10+ Bramblings coming down to drink in driveway of Ringstead Mill. View from road (Peddar’s Way), ie the road that runs south from the A149 from Holme to Ringstead. The mill is opposite the houses.

@sferguk Thanks, I thought along those lines but couldn’t think of a species with that sort of colour. The nearest I got was Hartlaub’s Francolin but I don’t think it occurs that far south.

@RogerMorton11 Dad says it could be a Francolin or Spurfowl maybe but is unsure himself?

Any idea what bird this came from @sferguk They are about 20 cms in length and came from the fynbos. Thank you

@sferguk The only info I’ve got is the fynbos and near to Cape Town. Someone asked me this afternoon knowing I’d done a fair bit of birding in SA

My first Taiga Bean for nine years was showing reasonably well in the late afternoon sunshine today at North Point Pools, just east of Wells-next-the-sea, with Russian White-fronts.

Just found this in the bottom of a tub of @UKCelebrations I got for Xmas. What did I win I hear you ask. I won a £1 e-voucher for Tesco which when you download and activate you have 30 minutes to use it. So if you’re not in a Tesco shop it’s utterly pointless. Merry Christmas 🙄

That’s both Wheatear and Whinchat this month, unknown for me in December. This Wheatear was on the seafront at Hunstanton, close to the Jet Ski ramp, this afternoon.

@LeeEvansBirding Quite shocked, I remember showing him his first nightjar on Chobham Common, just as he was starting his studies to become a dentist.

It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of ANDREW MOON today - a birder I had known well for over 50 years. Once of Watford, he spent the rest of his retirement years in Suffolk and was London Bird Recorder for a very long time before leaving

My first visit for over two years and got absolutely soaked! Four year ticks was compensation though, Ring-necked Duck (I think a Staines Reservoir first for me), Lesser Scaup and Black-necked Grebe. Also nearby RN Parakeet, never thought I’d have to wait until December for one)

@sferguk Your birthday on November 21st? At least the third Staines Causeway regular born on that day! Others being myself and the late George Cooper.

@JudyCooper99099 @uxbridgewalrus Absolutely awful coverage, a total insult to the fallen. The commentator, whoever she was, should never be allowed to cover the ceremony again. My father was killed in WW2 and I always watch the ceremonies, but couldn’t watch your coverage @BBC it was an absolute disgrace.

The best you can say for the BBC coverage of the Armistice Memorial coverage is that they managed to stop stop their unedifying chatter for the 2 minute silence...just...barely

Walked into the yard and saw this shape atop our roller. Not a Nightjar but sadly a Woodpigeon!

Watching an Australian TV series on BBC1 titled Mix Tape and up pops our youngest son in the credits, with a whole page to himself. Kind of makes you proud. Hopefully will be back out there in Australia again soon.

Spent three hours getting soaked trying to see this juvenile Red-backed Shrike at Thornham and got a couple of unsatisfactory views. Today I arrived and it’s posing in the sunshine! @NorfolkWT I should know better by now!!
