Recently I have heard people claim to “know everything about the #Somme and #ww1”. They claim to be “experts”. Of course I bow to their excellence but wonder how they measure their expertise. For example, how do they know they know everything? I learn something new every day. 🥸

@LordAshcroft @I_W_M I recently visited the IWM Lambeth and I was disappointed with what I found, not as good as it used to be. It used to be a quite place where you could reflect on the past, nowadays school children running amok, making plenty of noise. Shame

@LancsCCMG I’ve visited his grave in Italy many times. Nice to see this plaque.

I found this by chance in Leeds yesterday, less than a mile from YCCC ground. Captain Hedley Verity died in Caserta hospital in Italy after being wounded in the battle to secure Sicily.

Well, what can I say, today was the day I had my final test of the story, 9,000 words etched into my every waking moment since the 1st September. Passed with flying colours and had the honour of taking the first tour of the day, my first ever! AND, I had my daughter here to witness and share it. Unreal feeling, a huge thanks to all my HRP family, the Yeoman Body and most importantly, my mentor, Lisa who has had the job of guiding me through 1000 years of history. I now get my early mornings and evenings back 🤣 @TowerOfLondon @HRP_palaces

I've just been reduced to tears by the account of the dawn execution of Denis Blakemore in 1917 and his subsequent pardon in 2006. For once The Telegraph is right - the book is very thought-provoking and very definitely a tear-jerker and I'm only half way through it!

England were not good enough on the day, Scotland played brilliantly. Will leave it at that. Wales I feel sorry for, no idea why they are not playing like they used to. They will bounce back and come back to being a great team again soon

Well in the space of nine days I have been to one Six Nations game, 1 Premiership Rugby Cup game and watched 3 Six Nations games on TV. Knackered
