🎬 A New Episode of Fresh Perspectives Premierieres Today! John Candy made the world laugh — but behind the jokes was a reality many people still face today: being judged by body size instead of talent, humanity or worth. In our newest episode, OAC’s James Zervios sits down with Jess Perreca, Sarah Bramblette, MSHL and Ian Patton, PhD to unpack how weight bias shaped John Candy’s legacy and how it continues to affect people living with obesity. Their conversation dives into personal stories, media portrayals, healthcare experiences and the movement working to change the narrative. Watch the full premiere now on our YouTube channel: youtu.be/mP4XFNhXvlE #JohnCandy #ILikeMe #FreshPerspectives #StopWeightBias

This is one of the top 5 articles I recommend to those wanting to understand obesity, role of behaviour change, and an approach to obesity management. Good for doctors, students, and patients. The story of the Gatekeeper, the Go Getter, and the Lazy Executive from @DavidMacklinMD & Dr. Vallis. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/co…

@ObesityAction As a Canadian, John Candy was something special to us, but I was not aware of the extent of the pain media’s bias and stigma put on him. Doing the work I do now makes me sensitive to the topic and wonder the impact this bias had on his fans, like me, who saw themselves in him.

John Candy was more than his size—he was a beloved actor, a father and friend. Yet, as the new documentary John Candy: I Like Me shows, much of the world couldn’t see past his weight. Weight bias isn’t just hurtful—it’s harmful. Millions living with obesity today still face the same public scrutiny and discrimination Candy endured. Obesity is a complex disease, not a punchline. Read our full blog to learn how we can challenge weight stigma together: bit.ly/4otih7q @PrimeVideo #StopWeightBias #JohnCandy #ILikeMe

@DrTedros Thank you for your leadership and the efforts to bring together collective action on NCDs globally @DrTedros. Sadly, without addressing the most prevalent NCD, obesity, which is upstream to virtually all of the identified priorities, we will not meet goals @ObesityCan

The #UNGA High-level Meeting on Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) and Mental Health has officially started. NCDs account for seven of the world’s top 10 causes of death, and more than 1 billion people face mental health conditions. Every death is a tragedy, no matter the cause, but the younger the person, the more acute the tragedy. Let’s remember the reason we’re in this room – for the people who are not.

Mark Carney is breaking his promise to get projects done fast. Still no list. Just more talk. While we give away our resources at a discount & become more dependent on the U.S., the Liberal government stands in the way of getting things built. We can’t wait for every project to go through Carney’s thick political filter. We need an open economy where business can get the rapid green light for go-ahead.

BREAKING: Pierre Poilievre explains the dire economic situation Canada is in and reiterates the need of getting spending under control by cutting bureaucracy, waste, and foreign aid. As usual, Pierre is correct.

Actually it’s more like getting a tutor to help you do better at exams. The medicine helps you do the lifestyle that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to sustain due to your biology and environment.

Casey Means and I are the same age. She dropped out of ENT residency and now calls herself a metabolic health and nutrition expert. I completed my internal medicine training and went on to earn certifications in obesity medicine, clinical lipidology, cardiometabolic medicine, menopause, and culinary medicine and working on more. I actively care for patients every day. I would never claim to be qualified to serve as Surgeon General. But her consideration for such a role is a striking reality of how this administration continues to devalue real expertise in favor of hype, media presence and wellness branding. Credentials matter. Experience matters. Our patients deserve better.

One of the biggest myths about GLP-1 medicines out there is that it’s a choice between the medicine and doing lifestyle changes. The medicine helps you make lifestyle changes. It’s not either or.
