@englishcounties Gaels aren't the same as the Brythonic tribes who inhabited the region prior to the settlement of the Angle and Nordic tribes. The Irish influence came later. It doesn't make it a predominantly Celtic region.

I think WSH ancestry is fairly evenly distributed amongst Insular Celts and North Germanic peoples. Prior to recent archeological discoveries, I had long opined that the Gaels and North/West Germanic tribes are essentially the same root folk speaking different languages. The Irish, Scots, Angles, Saxons, Danes and Norwegians all share a starkly similar warrior mythos, for example.
