EXCLUSIVE: In 2025, Starbucks sent a letter to Gov Bob Ferguson warning him that passing higher taxes would have "unintended long-term economic consequences that will disproportionately impact Washington-based businesses."
The coffee giant urged him to veto the bills because "imposing new taxes on certain elements of our staffing, IT, security, and advertising functions that are based out of our local headquarters would dramatically increase costs, putting us at a competitive disadvantage to companies based in other states."
The company warned that imposing a new B&O surcharge "will also make it more difficult for us to make vital investments in Washington."
Ferguson ignored the warning. Starbucks announced it was expanding to Nashville earlier this year, laying off employees in Washington and hiring 2,000 people in Tennessee

@BrandiKruse They make these so called ranking based off non existent reality of true business or key facts about reality but solely on “social criteria” to fit a narrative but the reality truth is… business are leaving and closing

Today marks one entire month in the USA.
I only came for 1 world cup match, started documenting my journey and ended up:
- Going to 3 total world cup games, including a knockout game
- Meeting Donald Trump, the President of the United States
- Going on live morning TV with FOX
- Exploring 6 different states
I have just got a ticket to the England vs Argentina game and it's all possible thanks to the great american people who supported my journey and donated to my gofundme.
I never want this trip to end, it will never ever be topped. The greatest experience of my life.

A stranger at an American grocery store said, "I love your jacket, man."
I froze.
In Japan, when a stranger speaks to you, something is wrong. You dropped your wallet. Your bag is open. There is a spider on you.
So I checked my jacket for stains.
I checked my zipper.
I turned around — maybe he meant someone behind me.
He was already gone.
He didn't want anything.
The compliment was the whole event.
It took me three weeks to try it myself. I practiced in my car. "Nice hat." "Nice hat." "Nice hat." Twenty minutes.
At Home Depot, I finally said it to an old man. My voice cracked like I was confessing love.
He said "Thanks, brother!" and kept walking.
Like it was nothing.
Like kindness is free here.
Since that day, I have complimented 14 strangers.
In 40 years in Japan, I never once told my father I liked his car.
Tomorrow I'm calling him.
Nice hat, America.

Hello again.
We’re currently in Clemson, South Carolina. I’ve decided to come back here to document the final part of our road trip.
The main reason I deactivated my account two weeks ago was that things became increasingly toxic. For some people, it’s unfortunately unfathomable that a good story can exist without some kind of hidden agenda behind it. There was even a Reddit group going through my entire account trying to find anything they could use to reveal my identity.
I know this was only a small percentage of people, but after a while it became exhausting. During the last two weeks, I received so many kind messages on Instagram, and they really made me realize how many people genuinely enjoyed following the trip. Some people even told me that their grandparents regularly ask them, “What are the Germans up to today?” I think that’s really cool.
I decided to continue because I realized that the overwhelming majority of people loved following along. A small group of very loud people shouldn’t be able to ruin something that brought so many others joy.
I also want to clear something up, as people who follow me on Instagram already know.
I’ve been to the United States before. This is not my first visit, and I’ve never claimed that it was. The last time I was here was in January 2022, when I visited New York and Philadelphia.
A lot of people shared my Raising Cane’s post from November 2025 to make it look like I was secretly American. That post wasn’t from the United States, it was from my trip to Saudi Arabia.
This is my first time back in the U.S. in more than four years, and apart from Boston, I’d never visited any of the places we’ve been to on this trip before. That’s probably why many people assumed it was our first time in America, because for all of these places, it actually was.
And let me tell you, Ohio and Alabama are very different from New York City or Los Angeles.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Thanks for reading.
