@tragic_endings_ I wouldn't say 'disdain' per se, but there's some dismissiveness towards Delroy and MBJ being called the N-word, because the dynamic at play here is race, not class. So it's a misjudged perspective to push this to the side to focus on their millionaire status.

But there is nothing showing disdain in that tweets. They are simply acknowledging the power dynamics at play

@CMUpNorth Apologizing for hurting someone is not apologizing for being disabled. It's recognizing that you hurt someone, even if unintentionally. It's acknowledging that your action caused someone harm and you feel bad about that. Dismissing the harm you caused is insulting & is a choice.

What happened last night at the BAFTAs is a genuine example of competing rights – on the one hand, including someone with a disability who has every right to attend, and on the other, protecting people from being assailed by racial slurs. I honestly don't know how anyone's meant to square that.

@GLeftist2 He's referring to the audience at the BAFTAs and its reasonable to expect that the audience at an event like that would have seen most, if not all, of the films nominated for awards. I don't think he expected the words to be broadcasted

@MageVivika @KailuaPig But neither of these are "apologies" - which is what a lot of folks are asking for. An apology is expressing that you have done something wrong, that you acknowledge your own wrongdoing and will make an effort to not do it again. He already said he feels mortified

i realized that a lot of (white) people think that saying sorry only means "i did something bad and feel bad and i'm seeking forgiveness," and don't realize that it helps to say sorry when people are hurt by something outside of your control but you had some roll in.

In turn, that means there is room for a basic apology.

I have #Tourettes. I have been known to infrequently tic the n-word. Have I used a racist slur? Yes, I have. Am I a racist? No, I'm not. I tic the word "spastic". Have I used an ableist slur? Yes. Am I ableist? No. Heck, I'm #disabled myself. Those words are ones I know, and I might tic any word I know, because it's in my vocabulary register. I tic "chicken" a lot. I tic "fax machine" a lot too. Those are also in my vocabulary register, so they come out. The point I'm making is intent, which is one #JamieFoxx doesn't seem to get. I know it's awful and embarrassing for both me & those around me. But I cannot help it. People laugh at me when I meow, or make clucking noises but #JamieFoxx and his cheerleaders are mistakenly casting intent onto the mix, and it's dangerous to those of us who are afflicted with Tourettes & vocal spasms. I've been threatened. I've been punched by people who didn't understand what it is, and Foxx spreading misinformation only means more danger to those like me.

If his condition harms people around him, there are ways to participate without causing harm. He could attend virtually or submit a video message. A proper apology at least is in order.

I.e if you bump into someone you are apologising for the carelessness that lead to the accident. An apology without an admission of wrongdoing is essentially "im sorry your feelings are hurt"

His disability impacts his life far more than hearing the n word on TV impacts anyone. He is the one experiencing the hurt.
