@Ignorantiae @the_book_land 🤣 Never seen this… Meant as a portrait, really?? Oh dear.
English

@harbricht @the_book_land The most hilariously absurd Goethe statue I know, with the Munich artist Hermann Hahn and as it stands today in Lincoln Park, Chicago.

English

@harbricht @the_book_land Thank you! I admire them as images of a fragile older Goethe. In my perception, they don’t represent a strong, prophetic and well-balanced symbol of the German Universalgenie, as the etchings by Karl Bauer do.
English

@Ignorantiae @the_book_land This pencil sketch went to Dresden, the other two ⬇️ are in Weimar. Schulte-Strathaus: Die Bildnisse Goethes, 1910, tells the whole story.

English

@RembrandtsRoom Wat een origineel en gruwelijk genadeloos hard fysiek werk is dit toch. Moeilijk ook om hier het opstandingsgeloof aan te koppelen. Qua stijl doet het denken aan Ferdinand Hodler.
Nederlands

@Teszelszky @RembrandtsRoom Better scan. I read something like: "Jan fedeler. fec[it]" (or fideler or Adeler). Impossible to find an artist with a name like this. Nevertheless, the portrait of a young nobleman was not painted by an amateur.

English

@RembrandtsRoom Uhm... zie jij hier iets in? Ik zie wel iets, maar het geheel lukt me nog niet. Signatuur op een portret op paneel van c. 1631 uit een Gelderse coll.

Nederlands

@harbricht @the_book_land What is the source of this sketch? Was it ever published? I never saw it in any book. Seems important enough, because it was made d’après nature.
English

@harbricht @the_book_land Tsss… depicted as Roman imperial couple and consul…
English

@Ignorantiae @the_book_land You are _very_ close. Brandt made the medal you show in October 1825, but it was rejected by both Goethe and Carl August. He then came to Weimar in March 1826, made three sketches of which we saw one, and the approved result ⬇️ was officially presented on 7 November 1826.

Dutch thrift shops #DenHaag. Image 2 is an 18th piece for 5€.

Kees Teszelszky @Teszelszky
@klaasm67 Schroeder.

@ClassicalCritic I had it with this box cover, which I liked bause of its cool "avantgarde" cover. Wagner was of course avantgarde. But it somehow disappeared from my collection.

English

If I kept only one recording of
#Wagner's Parsifal it would be…
Boulez/King/Crass/DG
Amzn: amzn.to/3PPmczw
Unlike Kubelik (which I lent away once😢), it's available. B'boim, Kna' 62, Kegel, HvK all vie for favorite-status but this is the one I'd grab
#only1recording
