If you have John in a group DM and he is not the group owner, you can simply have the group owner remove his account from the group and it will prevent his account from being able to read the chat history of that particular group DM.

Do not simply leave or close the DM as the chat history will still be visible to those who have access to John's account. Please find the specific messages that have sensitive information and delete them individually.
