@nemui_mori I do use references most of the time. Was mostly talking about bringing photos/3D models on the canvas itself to edit with instead of something to look at on the side. Maybe I'm just overthinking it lol

Sweetie, while what you're aiming for is a great practice, you have to remember that even the great Leonardo Da Vinci is using references and not always draw from just an empty sheet of paper or cloth and an empty room. There's nothing wrong with it Sometimes or most of the times, anything we see either from other artworks or real life stuff, scenes, people, photos could trigger our imagination so yea I don't see why not ^_^) that's all I can say so good luck

The right image is so me when I'm too lazy to use any 3D dolls I usually mashed up a bunch of images to create a single pose and angle. It really helps me pictured what I want. Ngl It's like looking at an abomination on my screen 🤣

@nemui_mori For me, the issue I had was I didn't want to be reliant on using other resources to kickstart art. I wanted to be able to draw from an empty canvas consistently. But that made it much harder to start painting, which made it even harder to create a volume of work 🫤

@ImLarsN Tbh there's no right or wrong methods for making art. If it works for you then stick with it 🫶 if it doesn't then look for another one or improvise them

@KunoMD @TripwireArts1 I never considered an independent numpad cause my keyboard already has one attached. After looking some options on amazon I found for about $40 you can get a multi connection numpad for both pc and tablet, including mac/ipad. Just $20 for a robust wired one. Insane value.

@TripwireArts1 honestly if you have the desk space you can just use your keyboard! but i like my numpad to the left of my keyboard so i bought a small independent numpad on amazon many many years ago

ive been using the same 10 dollar numpad for art shortcuts for the past decade 🤷‍♂️ spend your money where it counts.

For better or for worse, the algorithm basically decides your fate now. And on the flip side of this, algorithmic exposure doesn’t always equate to growth. Some months ago Elon Musk randomly quoted a post of mine about Lord of the Rings. 25 million people saw my post, and one could assume that at least a fraction of those people saw “Draws” in my username, the artwork in my pfp, and could infer that I was an artist. All that exposure and my follower count didn’t budge (it may have actually decreased lmaooo), I didn’t see any degree of increased audience on successive posts, and I didn’t get a single sale of merch or kickback. A tweet reposted by the owner of the platform who is also the richest man in the world, which was seen by an audience nearly 1/10th the size of the population of the US did less for my online “growth” as an artist than an average repost of an old drawing with ~100 RTs This isn’t a complaining post — I thought the absolute non-impact of the tweet was actually a pretty funny result — but it just goes to show that the audience who sees your content is far more important than the number of people who see it, and the algorithm basically calls all of the shots in that regard. I know it’s tired and annoying advice from bigger accounts when we say this, but to me the lesson from this is to not chase exposure and reach — the algo is so fickle that it’s a good way to drive yourself mad. Draw what brings you joy, be true to yourself, build community and friendships.

@Zmeinir @richter_h_ No matter how many times different platforms change their algorithm, the "~10%" rule always applied with incremental decline the bigger the account gets. If you're getting 1k likes on 10k followers you're killing it. 5k likes on a 100k account is low but within reason.

@richter_h_ These are just empty numbers if only 1% of them actually sees your content. I've seen many big artists restart a new account or say they'd rather have less followers but more interactions. If nobody sees or interact with your content, wether you have 100K or 10K is the same.

Seeing 50k to 300k accounts doing the "my art is good the algorithm ignores me" thingy makes me wanna ask them, which part of the system that makes them feel ignored? Is your platform not big enough? What are we doing here?
