I made this below for the forthcoming issue of the monthly children's magazine of the Children's Book Trust — the venerable 70-year-old institution founded by Shankar in 1957. The picture shows 24 things in a child's daily life that come from crude oil. I drew it for a 10-year-old. But honestly — most adults, and I, cannot list half of these either. Perhaps that is the point of writing for young minds. It makes us see what we had stopped noticing.
