@AlexStepherylh @jbillinson Here you can see it applied to the cowling door on a 787 with white coating on it (it had some erosion still within limits). It just isn't allowed on the wing because of lightning strike thickness and electrical resistance limits.

Saw Project Hail Mary again today, this time with my daughter. She finished the book last week (pretty damn impressive if I say so for a 10yo with English as a 2nd language). 1st time ever to the cinema for the same movie 2x, and it's just as good the 2nd time. Modern classic.

@BirdmanAnderson @teal_lens @jbillinson From what I've heard the FAA considered it low priority for certification bc it already had a repair procedure (repaint the wing with the normal paint scheme) and there were other more pressing issues they wanted Boeing to fix on the 787 first. Not sure how true that is.

@teal_lens @jbillinson The FAA approved the SB with the solution a month or 2 ago (took about 6 years from first draft afaik). There's going to be a layer of black PPG CA8000 in between the primer and white topcoat to absorb UV light before it can damage the carbon fiber of the inspar.

@jbillinson Putting that aside it's been 17 years of the 787 they should've solved the paint peeling problem by now

@_cherrysworld @jbillinson The 787 wing has a lot of paint delamination due to UV-damage. But sanding + primer and topcoat requires at least 12 hours before it's dry to fly. The speedtape is there to protect the bare carbon fiber from more UV damage until the next maintenance window with enough time.

@oblique58 @archeohistories That's correct. The synthesis results in a racemic mixture of enantiomers, which means the molecules are mirror images of each other. You could change the reaction conditions to favor one over the other, but thalidomide also racemizes in the human body, so it can never be safe.

@archeohistories i remember something about this being a right hand molecule versus a left hand molecule. the wrong handedness caused the birth defect.

In 1960, a quiet woman at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration was handed a routine file. It was for a drug already sold in nearly 50 countries—a sedative called thalidomide, widely marketed as safe for pregnant women. Most people would have signed off. Frances Oldham Kelsey didn’t. New to the FDA, she noticed something others had overlooked—or ignored. The data was thin. Reports of nerve damage were buried. The safety claims felt… too clean. While the pharmaceutical company pushed aggressively for approval, sending repeated requests and mounting pressure, Kelsey held her ground. She asked for more studies. Then more. And more. Behind the scenes, the pressure wasn’t subtle. Drug companies expected quick approvals. Delays meant lost profit. For a young female reviewer in a male-dominated system, saying “no” wasn’t just professional resistance—it was personal risk. She was challenging an industry that wasn’t used to being challenged, especially not by a woman. Then the truth surfaced. Across Europe, thousands of babies were being born with devastating deformities—missing limbs, malformed organs—traced back to thalidomide taken during pregnancy. It became one of the worst medical disasters of the 20th century. Because Kelsey refused to approve it, the United States was largely spared. Her skepticism saved countless lives. In 1962, she was awarded the President’s Award for Distinguished Federal Civilian Service by John F. Kennedy—one of the highest honors a civilian could receive. But her impact didn’t stop there. Her stand forced sweeping changes in drug regulation, leading to stricter testing requirements and proof of efficacy before approval. The system became safer because she refused to bend. She didn’t shout. She didn’t grandstand. She simply refused to compromise when it mattered most. And that’s what made her dangerous—in the best possible way. © Women In World History #archaeohistories

@ishitak30325695 @Will_Temeraire @mimi2345_ Of course we don't "need" it, but we do want it. And almost everyone is willing to pay for it legally. I don't know anyone who doesn't subscribe to 2/3/4 different streaming services. But it's only very recently that asian content started to become available. Until then, piracy.

@Will_Temeraire @mimi2345_ Piracy is crime. ''You(or we) don't want to use piracy but we have to use it'' is very wierd and logically has a contradiction. The most important fact is,if we can't access it legally or can't buy it,we don't need it. And we never need entertainments like movies, games, anime, etc.

@magozone23 Why go through all that effort? To feel better about yourself? The distributor can make it convenient to purchase in Japan and make money. If he doesn't, that's his own fucking problem. Just download the free copy then.

@magozone23 Though ultimately this may just be an excuse lol. Its just how I personally feel, and I don't condone Piracy. I believe if you truly love a game, artist, or manga, ect. , you should support them and pay for your products.
