In his address, the Governor urged the Federal Ministry of Niger Delta Development to tackle the region's specific challenges and integrate partnerships within the States. According to the Governor, "The Renewed Hope administration, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is steadfast in its commitment to national development, and as Niger Deltans, it is incumbent upon us to take ownership of this drive and work towards achieving the development we aspire to".

FG’s STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARATION ON FOOD SECURITY; WAY TO GO By Princess Christina-Eligwe Ude The recent decision and move by the Federal Government of Nigeria under the leadership of His Exellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by declaring a state of emergency on food security in the country is quite laudable given the present times of soaring prices in general goods and services, particularly food items being a resultant effort of removal of the subsidy on premium motor spirit (PMS). Food constitutes a large chunk or percentage of expenditure that most Nigerians make out of their incomes and it is such owing to how critical food is to human existence and as such requires serious attention by any responsible government. For almost all countries of the World today that are considered fragile and conflict-affected, agriculture is among the most important economic sectors. Stabilising individual and community livelihoods through innovative social protections, food system development, and climate adaptation programs has the potential to increase food, nutrition and economic security as well as social cohesion, resilience and equality and this cannot be overemphasized. In the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN, precisely, Goal 2 which aims to achieve Zero Hunger, it highlights the complex inter-linkages between food security, nutrition, rural transformation and sustainable agriculture. A report by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) concluded that emphasis should be on eliminating hunger and under-nutrition and 3 pathways identified to achieve it were (a) agriculture-led; (b) social protection- and nutrition- intervention-led; or (c) a combination of both of these approaches. So, the food intervention plan of the Federal Government enumerated in the release of grains and fertilizers, creation of the National Commodity Board to review food prices and maintain food reserve, incorporation of food and water in the scheme of the National Security Council, farm mechanization, deploying concessionary capital financing, urgent synergy between Ministries of Agriculture and Water Resources, explore alternative means of storage and transportation to reduce cost, amidst others are commendable and more efforts are expected to be seen in the implementation. Therefore, we must all fall in line as a people, to assist our government achieve these objectives to put food on the table by ensuring that the right things are done and task those in the forefront on manning and executing these initiatives.
