Most County Championship wickets, 1980–1989 🏏 The 80s list is absolutely loaded. Eddie Hemmings leads the decade with 648 wickets - a huge return for a durable off-spinner who bowled mountains of overs and gave Nottinghamshire control year after year. But the overseas pace quality is the headline. Malcolm Marshall took 630 wickets at 17.08 for Hampshire. That is outrageous. One of the greatest fast bowlers ever, operating in county cricket across full seasons, and still going at barely 2.46 an over. Richard Hadlee was even more absurd statistically: 530 wickets at 14.34, economy 2.14, strike rate 40.18. A New Zealand legend and one of Nottinghamshire’s greatest overseas players. Then you’ve got Sylvester Clarke: 540 wickets at 19.14 for Surrey, raw pace, hostility and serious wicket-taking impact. Among the English names, John Lever took 629, Derek Underwood was still doing Derek Underwood things with 543 at 22.85, and John Emburey added 526 with elite control. The 1980s County Championship had world-class fast bowlers, elite spinners, and brutal workloads. #CountyCricket #Cricket #CountyChampionship Stats by redballcricketstats.com
