Ensconced in this peaceful grassy bowl, undisturbed by the cares of modern life, where clamorous din yields to birdsong and the rustle of leaves, and the only man-made sound is the brief crack of leather on willow. My thoughts drift, then settle, then drift again as I wait for the next ball to be bowled. I find again the bowler’s steady rhythm, the clean arc of the ball through still air as it runs its course toward the waiting bat. No run. The game resumes its patient order. I sit in quiet attention. The birds continue. The leaves move. The wind does not hurry, and neither does the game.
