@infocraving I think they do (for some reasonable definition of the turing test) arxiv.org/html/2503.2367…

@InVitroFuture Let's see it pass the turing test

Concerned the general public thinks this means "huh, AI will be good at math nerd stuff".
It means the hypothesis "we can make AI train itself to get better and better, even outside the distribution of ideas humans have had" actually works, and if we don't stop it we're all dead

Google just solved 9/353 open Erdős Problems at the cost of a few hundred dollars each using its most capable LLM. The proofs were written in Lean and mechanically verified. This is no longer just olympiad mathematics.

@ESennesh @usablejam Jewish commitment to living in Jewish community according to Jewish values, maybe even in the lands that feature in Jewish scripture, will outlive capitalist nationalism. Zionism as a historical capitalist nationalist movement cannot by definition outlast capitalist nationalism.
English

@ESennesh @usablejam And I'd in fact argue that the political history of Jewish diaspora, from the Middle Ages to the Russian Revolution to the CRM, has enough counterexamples that insisting on equating historical agency with fitting into the ethnic nationalist mold is in meaningful ways anti-Jewish
English

@ESennesh @usablejam I don't think politicized identity groups have to adopt the vehicle of nationalism, and let themselves be shaped by it, in order to be agents of history.
English

@usablejam Nothing like a good machloket with a fellow Jew
English

@InVitroFuture Oh, fuck you.
Jews have wanted to return to Israel ever since it was stolen from us thousands of years ago.
English

@InVitroFuture Yeah, I fucking know.
But I was saying, "Telling Jews to be Bundists is telling Jews to lie down and die."
How exactly is that "goy-brained", you fucking ass?
English

@InVitroFuture Like, "goyishe"? How does that make any sense in the context of what you're saying?
It doesn't.
English

@xuanalogue Sure, idk more than anyone what happens after the Singularity—hence follow-up tweet.
But I thought "can RSI bootstrap past training data in advanced math/CS topics" was the main remaining open question re: can the Extremely Scary Timeline be avoided short of a pause-AI treaty
English

@InVitroFuture I don't think just the ability to self-improve beyond the current frontier of human knowledge is sufficient (or necessary / crucial) for AI x-risk / rogue AI killing all humans. We've had similar kinds of self-improvement dynamics since AlphaZero.
English

@NicholasD91704 Sure. Ethical vegetarianism is unstable under standard frameworks, bc everything done to meat cows and broilers is also done to dairy cows and layers. But if you endorse the theory that flesh itself is ethically sui generis, the fraction of insect parts in honey is negligible
English

@MaytalKowalski If you invest in Canadian society, aren't abandoning Canadian politics to go live in Tel Aviv or Miami, and don't base your politics on the interests of the Israeli governing coalition—all of which I think are true—you *are* doing "hereness" as a Canadian Jew. That's what it is
English

@InVitroFuture Sure, if you think I don't invest in my local society and base my politics around a far off apartheid project, then fair enough, except none of that is true. You're still not able to answer the question.
English

To be clear, as a Canadian Jew, if I do "hereness", I'm still a settler on stolen land, yes?
So why is it inherently better to be that here than in Israel?
The Economist@TheEconomist
Jews in the diaspora who want to celebrate their heritage without tying themselves to Israel might look to the Bundist concept of “hereness”, which a new book by Molly Crabapple celebrates economist.com/culture/2026/0…
English

@MaytalKowalski By all means feel free to do this. Just don't tell me I have to do it, or build my worldview around supporting people who do it, in order to be politically active as a Jewish person in Massachusetts
English

@MaytalKowalski Doykeit was never about saying Jews in diaspora are inherently superior to those in Eretz Yisrael. "Doing doykeit in Israel" (a conceptual stretch) would mean roughly "building coalitions with local oppressed people to organize for justice as Jews, but not Jewish nationalists"
English

@tofuafficionado I like the idea of a regular series of real, not too hard, honest vegan dinners from a real non-foodie vegan but uh. Do you ever eat things that aren't a whole block of tofu on rice with a little sauce. They have frozen vegetables these days you can cook them in a few minutes
English

@smaugizbored @DwightSinghS Can't tell if this is a stupid chud point (obviously she's aware that she's Indian, and emphasizing this in how she pronounces "dupatta" and "Desi") or a clever woke point (the city of the Misión San Francisco de Asís has never not been brown)
English

@DwightSinghS "Frisco is too brown"
Self-awareness: 0.

@hamburger317 Music theory professor I know likes to warn students against being complacent with a superficial analysis by saying, "the most dangerous words in music theory are 'is', 'just', and 'the'"
English

@adam_kranz @norvid_studies Last round I'd say about half of Opus's complaints were valid, of which about half had a decent replacement proposed. Even with PMID plugins it seems to skim and believe abstracts a lot (not that I don't).
So can't take anything it says as truth, but a step up from a rubber duck
English

@InVitroFuture @norvid_studies Yes, it is very picky about citing lots of things and citing the right things (even if it also does sometimes miss or misinterpret things etc)
