Spread over 11,000 acres, Naval base karwar (INS Kadamba) phase 2A expansion project is underway to accommodate 32 capital ships including both aircraft carriers and multiple destroyers, frigates and submarines at the cost of 3 billion $ 400 metre long pier with RCC is operational to anchor 45k ton A/C INS Vikrant and Vikramaditya in tandem with multiple piers/jetties for surface combantants and OPV, yard crafts etc. 4 covered dry docks and 1 ship repair yard + 10k ton syncrolift facility is also available to ensure complete MRO infrastructure. Temperature controlled missile storage bunkers and ammunition depots are located nearby for magazine depth. Located midway between mumbai and kochi on the western coast of india (karnataka state), it features mega residential complex for 10 thousand sailors and personnel. 2.7 km long runway for naval air station is under construction along with expansion of base hospital to 400 beds. It will also house special forces training centre (MARCOS) in near future as approval for phase 2B to handle upto 50 ships is under consideration ! Its situated 1200 km south of karachi and commands a strategic location in the arabian sea due to vital shipping lanes passing close by. It provides a safe, deep water natural harbour. What do you think, why india is ambitiousy building up it's naval presence in IOR ... how it will impact maritime security of Pakistan and what steps should be taken to mitigate future risks ⁉️
