The 125th Annual General Meeting of the Surma Valley Branch of the Indian Tea Association signifies a milestone in the history of the tea industry in BarakValley & Tripura. It highlights the long-standing legacy and commitment of the association towards the tea industry, showcasing its dedication to the region's economic growth. The event brought together industry stakeholders to discuss challenges, opportunities, and future directions for the tea sector.

125th AGM of Surma Valley Branch ITA held at Cachar Club Silchar today - presided by IB Ubhadia, Chairman SVBITA was graced by Hon'ble MP Parimal Suklabaidya as ChiefGuest, Dr Rajive Mohon Panth VC, Assam University as Honored Guest, Atul Rastogi, Addl Vice Chair ITA in presence of members and distinguished guests from various walks of life. Welcome address of the Branch Chair dwelt on the Surma Valley Branch ITA's glorious journey of 125 years and the adaptive needs on the way forward. The Chief Guest @parimalsukla in his address highlighted the upcoming developments of the region which includes an Express Highway to Salchapra. Addl Vice Chair Rastogi flagged the challenges of the tea industry in this region and the industry's expectations of interventions by Govt where necessary. VC Assam University emphasised the overall benefits of sustained Industry - Academia interface and the Assam University's keenness to associate with the industry in R&D activities. A MoU on collaboration between SVBITA & Assam University was entered into during the function.

ITA hails the recent India-US trade agreement, marking a significant milestone in bilateral trade relations. Under the visionary leadership of the Hon'ble PM, @narendramodi and the Government of India's, sustained dialogue with the US administration, has culminated in a welcome reduction of US tariffs on Indian goods to 18% from previous higher levels including punitive duties - substantiating India's resilience amid global adversities. This achievement follows closely on the heels of the landmark "mother of all deals"—the comprehensive Free Trade Agreement with the EU, which eliminates or reduces tariffs on the vast majority of goods and opens up vast market access in Europe. These successive developments highlight the strength of India's steadfast economic diplomacy. The rationalized tariff regime will particularly benefit key industrial sectors, including #tea, by enhancing export competitiveness . ITA lauds the visionary leadership of Hon'ble CM @himantabiswa and the proactive steps of Addl CS, P&RD @ballepukalyan for their receptive and responsive steps to ITA's persistent advocacy to enlarge the scope of MNREGA schemes in tea garden areas during lean season. This will aid the development of life and livelihood in TG areas as well as enable the temporary workers to be deployed in the lean season for developmental and maintenance works within the garden premises as also mitigation of costs for the management. The steps being taken by the Commissionerate P&RD to create awareness regarding MNREGA schemes and jobs during lean season by organizing Rozgar Diwas programmes in the TGs reflect the Govt of Assam's sincere efforts in this direction.
